Democratic strategist Bob Beckel admitted, in an interview on Fox News, that Fred Thompson for president would be their worst nightmare. Sounds good to me!

C'mon Senator Thompson, you can do it!
Thompson served just over two years after winning a special election in 1994, then another full 6 year term, winning again in 1996.
The WH Bulletin (subscription required) reported this morning on growing efforts to draft Fred Thompson, the Law and Order actor, former Senator, and current Paul Harvey replacement on ABC Radio. The report notes slyly that Thompson has yet to endorse any '08 candidate and hasn't disclaimed an interest in the '08 race.
Thompson, the former Tennessee Republican senator whos now a Law & Order prosecutor and regular replacement for radio host Paul Harvey, is being urged by supporters to consider entering the presidential race, according to associates. The draft Fred movement is growing, says one ally. They say that Thompson is flattered by the suggestions, but it is unclear if he is turning away their appeals. The effort is growing among conservative blogs, where several boards are pushing the folksy straight-talker to get in.
Well, for one thing, Mr. Thompson's ABC News contract probably prohibits him from saying anything in public about ongoing political campaigns. Also, while Thompson is conservative and has a record to back it up, he's not and never has been a member of the conservative intellectual elite. He's about as right-leaning as the old Mitt Romney + Mike Huckabee divided by two.
Most importantly, Sen. John McCain is one of Thompson's best friends. They talk regularly. A source close to Thompson said that Thompson will not run for president, period.
And that's the rest of the story.
Bob Beckell is not that cunning.
Strike this up as a moment of lucidity.

Former Senate Republican leader Howard Baker said Friday he is urging his friend Fred Thompson, a TV actor and former U.S. senator, to run for president and is encouraging others to draft him.
Baker, in a telephone interview, said: "I'm planting the seed that he might run or might be convinced to run." ....
Baker said he has talked to Thompson about running for president. "He doesn't confirm that he's interested and he also doesn't tell me to stop," Baker said.
Thompson could not be reached for comment. Fox News has announced he will answer questions on its Sunday program with Chris Wallace.
See my post #23. I truly doubt he will run. But he does like the publicity it gives him more Hollywood star power.
Thompdon confirmed that he is looking into runnin during a Friday night radio interview.
We'll see what he says tomorrow on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace.
Oh sure he is looking at it and so did Al Gore for the Democrats. But he said he would never go back to politics and promised his wife when his daughter died. Unless his wife wants him to and he can get out of being sued by NBC then he will do it.
WOW! Where has this guy been?
Thompson sounds like the absolutely perfect conservative.
Thompson for Prez 2008!
I will be looking at him soon...on IMDB too.
He has not been in the forefront of political chatter class.
Maybe that is good.
He served 1 1/3 terms.
Good! Nightmares for Dems are good things.
LOL... your age is showing.
Well if he wants to its there for him. But I really truly doubt it. He likes the attention though and I don't blame him.
Bob Beckel does not tell the truth, ever.
Don't be surprised if he endorses McCain tomorrow! He's real good friends with him. And I think McCain will be counting on it. Personally I hope he runs to smack McCain in the face. But they are best buddies so I doubt it.
I knew that and I think he's saying that to get the Republicans all riled up. That is why I think this Thompson thing is just talk. I think Thompson will endorse His good buddy McCain when all is said and done.
Apparently Thompson is seeking supporters:
