Czech Pres: Environmentalism is a religion
United Press International ^ | March 9, 2007

WASHINGTON, March 9 (UPI) -- Environmentalism is a religion that is based more on political ambitions than science, the president of the Czech Republic warned Friday.

Speaking at the Cato Institute, a public policy think-tank, President Vaclav Klaus said that environmentalists who clamor for policy change to combat global warming "only pretend" to be promoting environmental protection, and are actually being driven by a political agenda.

"Environmentalism should belong in the social sciences," much like the idea of communism or other "-isms" such as feminism, Klaus said, adding that "environmentalism is a religion" that seeks to reorganize the world order as well as social behavior and value systems worldwide.

As for government spending on global warming studies, the former finance minister and of the Eastern European nation and trained economist said that such efforts were a "waste of money," adding that there was already sufficient scientific evidence for those seeking policy change to back up their proposals.

Meanwhile, he pointed out that those seeking to protect the environment could do a great deal under the existing political framework and with existing technologies, such as importing less goods from far-flung regions that require enormous jet fuel use.

Klaus concluded Friday his week-long tour of the United States, having met with a number of senior Bush administration officials, including Vice President Dick Cheney.

Dr. Klaus was a guest on the Savage Nation yesterday (Friday 3/9). He told Mike that the current global warming argument was nothing but a tool being used by the left to push a centrally planned economy on the masses, much like the hellhole he lived under when the Soviet Union existed.

...Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections...

And amen, it is good to see a wise national leader who is not an agenda driven fear monger.

"Must be a Rush listener."

While Rush is sharp, some of us who don't really listen to him have drawn the same conclusion.

I think his rejoinder as Czechoslovakia's Prime Minister after the fall of the Communist regime was that the vaunted "Third Way" was also a waste of time. Been there, done that. As President Vaclav Klaus sees it, environmentalism is simply socialism wearing a green mask. These people are still collectivists at heart and now their justification for imposing planned regimentation upon society is no longer equality but protecting the environment. The more things change, the more they remain the same.

A good leader who also, no doubt, understands the importance of borders and the control of immigration.

Envirowhacko's should be treated just like radical islam. All the environazi's that don't want A.N.W.R. brilled, should be shipped there in the summertime. We shall take all their clothes taken from them, have no weapons, and tell them that if they survive the two months of summer, we will return to see if any survived, and take them back to civilization. Why? Because they think we are sssooooo evil, obviously they don't need anything man has created to survive. Guaranteed they'd see the world a little different!

Anyone ever talk to any of the idiots that are out there making environmentalism a religion? They're scary!

"And promoted by financiers trying to make a buck in trading the non-product product of 'carbon credits,' global socialists who want to impose a socio-economic system to control American wealth and property, and communists who see it as a method of wealth redistribution."

And... I might add... A system of "indulgences" issued by the church of "Born Again Pagans" and it's "Pope" Algore the Mark of the Beast!!!

For $666 and 3 labels from a CA redemption valued plastic bottle, you are entitled to continue exhaling your breath, even though your breath is largely CO2!!!

Just send your $666 to Mark of the Beast, POBox 666, Goretown, US 66600-6660 and you too can be redeemed!!!

Plus! You'll recieve a miniture statue of Oscar to replace that useless statue of St. Christopher on the dashboard of your Escalade SUV so it can be redeemed, too!!!

Importantly, there is a *test* you can use to tell if someone is actually interested in improving an ecology, or if it is just an excuse to gain political power. The test has several different elements, but is not hard to figure out:

1) Do they practice what they preach in their personal lives?

Algore, Robert Redford, Teddy Kennedy, et al, are always in favor of everybody *else* getting by with less, yet have absolutely no desire to do with less themselves, even going so far as to squander resources, just because they can.

2) Do they rail against subjective problems, or things that cannot be easily or accurately measured, or have solutions that cannot be easily or accurately measured?

Global warming is the current cause celebre, along with "peak oil" and many others. It used to be global cooling and "the population explosion", but that has faded in recent years. (Unlike with their garbage, they do recycle their trash ideas, so we will undoubtedly hear of these again.)

3) Are they only interested in the trendy issues, or in only a single subset of the eco movement, like PETA; or do they have a selection of problems, many of which are ignored by the environmentalist movement?

4) Are they more interested in local ecological problems than those somewhere else?

For example, someone who has always lived in New Jersey, and has never been to Alaska, but is deeply concerned that oil drilling in Alaska will destroy that State; versus someone who wants their town to recycle aluminum cans.

5) Can they discuss environmental issues without digressing to politics or attack?

That is, whatever it is, "is Dick Cheney and Halliburton's fault."

6) Do their suggested solutions have nothing to do with the problem, but must increase taxes and involve collectivism?

"We must have a consumption tax, and declare May 12th to be 'Global Warming Day', to raise public "awareness. All school children must attend a propaganda speech on the subject."

7) Do they get upset when a different-from-the-agenda solution to a problem is proposed?

"No! The *only* thing that will work is a consumption tax, and to declare May 12th to be 'Global Warming Day'. That is it. No other ideas are permitted in the discussion. They are stupid."

Why did Savage make an issue of Klaus' accent after the interview? While Savage makes very good points, sometimes. I find him generally repulsive as a human being.

Evidently Savage had a difficult time understanding his guest. His reaction was a bit harsh and even I as a regular listener took issue with it. But that's Savage. Psychological nudity.

Oops, UPI slipped. The MSM only likes stories about the "fact" of global warming,America being the worst polluter in the world, and stories about foreigners saying "we were better off under communism/Saddam/Taliban/etc."

Exactly right. "Science" is the figleaf on the totalitarian impulse.
