Beg Your Pardon
NRO ^ | 09 Mar 07 | Charles Krauthammer

Posted on 03/09/2007 9:17:22 AM PST by rellimpank

There are lies and there are memory lapses. Bill Clinton denied under oath having sex with Monica Lewinsky. Unless you're Wilt Chamberlain, sex is not the kind of thing that you forget easily. Sandy Berger denied stuffing classified documents in his pants, an act not quite as elaborate as sex, but still involving a lot of muscle memory, and unlikely to have been honestly forgotten.

Scooter Libby has just been convicted for four felonies that could theoretically give him 25 years in jail for ... what? Misstating when he first heard a certain piece of information, namely the identity of Joe Wilson's wife.

Think about that. Can you remember when was the first time you heard the name Joe Wilson or Valerie Plame?

No, perspective is very necessary given how the MSM is running with this.

Not at all. This is a miscarriage of justice, pure and simple. Trust Charles Krauthammer to put it into perspective...

Krauthammer is always an intelligent commentary.

""This is a case that never should have been brought, originating in the scandal that never was, in search of a crime — violation of the Intelligence Identities Protection Act — that even the prosecutor never alleged. That's the basis for a presidential pardon. It should have been granted long before this egregious case came to trial. It should be granted now without any further delay.""

My favourite quote from the editorial...Krauthammer makes a very cogent and compelling case for a Presidential Pardon (which I do think will happen over the wails and whines of the Dems) for Libby. On a side note, I think Charles did a better job of presenting the rationale for a pardon than Ann Coulter (both used some of the same examples)...though I do not want to start a thread battle.

The important thing for Dhimmicrats is that they feeeeeeel that the Bush administration is bad bad bad, and that someone must pay, no matter how egregiously one must turn logic, reason, or the rule of law on its head in order to do so.

The important thing is that lefties validate their feeeeeeelings...

Agree ... the push for an immediate pardon is premature if there is a hope that Scooter can still beat this travesty on appeal.

Bill Clinton denied under oath having sex with Monica Lewinsky.

No action

Sandy Berger denied stuffing classified documents in his pants.

perform 100 hours of community service and pay the fine as well as $6,905 for the administrative costs of his two-year probation...

Scooter Libby misstating when he first heard a certain piece of information.

potentially 25 years in prison...

Just wanna be sure everyone here understands what is a major crime and what is not.

IMO, what this tells me is the major crime is not being a communist liberal.

First, the appeal. If the appeal is denied, or he loses on appeal, then a pardon would be appropriate.

There is a second instance of Russert innocently misremembering. He stated under oath that he did not know that one may not be accompanied by a lawyer to a grand jury hearing.

I'm going to disagree with the brilliant doctor here. Russert has a law degree, fergoodnesssakes. This wasnt misremembering. It was lying under oath.

Russert is no boy scout.

"It was not a crime to reveal Valerie Plame's name because she was not a covert agent. If it had been a crime, Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald could have wrapped up his investigation with an indictment of the State Department's Richard Armitage on the first day of his investigation since it was Armitage who revealed her name and Fitzgerald knew it." - Ann Coulter

There's the truth of the Libby case. Libby should be pardoned and Fitzgerald should be indicted for prosecutorial abuse. Nifong is a piker in comparison.
