Keeping tabs on New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson as he seeks the Democratic nomination for president ...

DON'T JUMP: David Brooks, the big-wig New York Times columnist and author, credits Richardson with saving him from self-destruction in a piece in the Sunday Times. "So there I was, sitting in my office, quietly contemplating suicide," he begins. He was watching the Democrats at the Nevada candidates' forum on C-SPAN, and then he saw Richardson: "He was dressed differently— in slacks and a sports jacket. He told jokes that didn't seem repeated for the 5,000th time. He seemed recognizably human, unlike some of his overpolished peers. He gave the best presentation, by far." Brooks opines that if Richardson continues to do that well, "he's the candidate most likely to rise."

NOT ALL GOOD: Brooks wasn't all lovey. He also talked about style: "This is his biggest drawback. He's baggy-faced, sloppy (we like our leaders well groomed), shamelessly ambitious and inelegant. ... He's Budweiser, not microbrew."

GIVE THANKS, AND PIN: A blogger recounts her encounter with Richardson at a fundraiser in Georgia. She thanked him for including gays, lesbians, bis and transgendered people when he spoke about equality. He told her, "Always have, always will." Then he admired her "I'm the Decider" pin, she gave it to him and he pinned it on his blazer.

AMEN: Even though he didn't go to Selma, Ala., on Sunday, Richardson got a TV and newspaper bump from Hillary Clinton's speech. Acknowledging the continuing power of the Voting Rights Act, Clinton said: "Today, it's giving Senator Obama the chance to run for president of the United States. And, by its logic and spirit, it is giving the same chance to Governor Bill Richardson, a Hispanic. And, yes, it is giving me that chance, too."

The good and bad from the campaign trail (mostly good, of course, this is the liberal media reporting). And we're keeping tabs on those keeping tabs on Richardson.

The act that his female colleagues don't like sitting next to him is not a negative?

Well, as governor he's a corrupt control freak who makes darned sure that nobody honest works for him. And before that he was one of the smelliest of the clintonoids.

And that keeps David Brooks from jumping out his window?

Nah. I'll bet Brooks has one of those skyscraper windows that can't be opened all the way, to keep him from landing on the pedestrians below.

He is Pro-Gun and Pro-Choice...so that makes him 50% more conservative than Rudy right?

Richardson probably represents the Dimwits' best chance to win the general election, but the left wing-bats don't have the common sense to nominate him. If he has a good showing he'll likely get the veep slot.

Why are you keeping watch? Does this man even stand a chance to get the democrat nomination?

To answer my own question, I thought I did hear that democrat primaries are not determined early in the primary season, but are up for grabs throughout -- up until their convention.

Am I wrong?

Just because he's our Rat governor and is getting lots of free, usually favorable, coverage here in NM. If he does rise to the top, something posted here on FR may help in bringing out the facts that are oftentimes conveniently ignored.

Well, his clintonista creds were until now my biggest objection to Richardson. This posting gives me a bigger reason for despising him: he kept David Brooks from killing himself.

You're certainly right about the positive national coverage he receives. Compare that to the coverage of republican governors who have declared. It's non existent.
