When the Dadaists displayed a urinal as "art" people thought it was shocking, and witty and oh-so modern.

But as soon as you define "art" as whatever is "shocking" and no longer require that the artist have any talent (Marcel Duchamp signed the urinal, but did not create anything), then it's just a matter of time before people start throwing feces like monkeys in the zoo and calling it "art".

I am not a fan of Modern Art. Sure, not all of it is crap -- but I'm convinced that in the future, the 20th century will not be considered a great period for art.

Things like this make it OK for us to mock and insult the French or anyone else in the world. Free speech is a double edged sword. Unless you're a liberal.
