Rep. Peter King Endorses Giuliani

Rep. Peter King Endorses Giuliani

Rep. Peter King (R-NY), former Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, has endorsed former Mayor Rudy Giuliani for President in 2008, according to the New York Daily News.

This is newsworthy because King co-chaired Sen. John McCain's New York campaign in 2000.

FROM THE NY DAILY NEWS:

Rudy Giuliani has wooed Rep. Peter King away from Sen. John McCain. King co-chaired McCain's New York campaign in the 2000 White House race, but the Long Island congressman says he'll now be lining up other House members for Giuliani. The ranking Republican on the Homeland Security Committee tells us he thinks Giuliani is "best qualified to fight terrorism." Giuliani and King got to know each other while serving as summer legal interns. "We'd both ride the Long Island Rail Road into Manhattan," recalls King. "Last Friday, we took Amtrak down to D.C. for a conservative conference. I said to myself, 'Forty years later, and I'm still riding the train with Rudy."

"No. I just know how to read the political facts and analyze them accordingly. Calling Rudy a liberal and a RINO are two facts of political life."

Reagan Man;

I am on the Rudy ping list, and intend to support him, but I am not blind, and I do have problems with Rudy on social issues.

However, I cannot get past three things: first, I do not believe anyone can do a better job in the GWOT - many can do as well, but none better; second, my personal sense of priorities puts the GWOT far and away at the top of the list; third, Rudy can beat whomever the Dems put up against him - and defeating the Democrat is Job One, Job One-A and Job Two. This, to me, is THE controlling issue.

As a Duncan Hunter supporter I am choosing not to engage in debate on this Rudy Giuliani thread on Free Republic. As a freeper I am disappointed that there are fans of a liberal presidential candidate trying to push socially liberal views on this socially conservative forum. In particular, I have noticed that the Rudy Giuliani fans do not answer posts questioning the qualitative substance of their candidate, or the posts are met merely with insults.

Sorry, I misread your original post. You are correct in stating during the LAST election he was not being treated for cancer.

Fearful of 'The Hag from Hell', I don't think so.

"- Representative King supported the interests of the National Taxpayers Union 52 % in 2005."

What's your beef with NTU?

from their mission statement:

NTU was established in 1969 to educate taxpayers, the media, and elected officials on a non-partisan basis on the merits of limited government and low taxes.

My beef is with RINO Peter King voting AGAINST them HALF the time. If I got 52% of the answers "right" on a test, I'm pretty sure I'd get a failing grade.

>> Okay. Understood. A few FReepers misuse and overuse the term, RINO. I don't consider Bill Bennett and Michelle Malkin to be RINO`s. Wouldn't label Michael Medved a RINO either. And Ann Coulter did nothing wrong at CPAC and all the so-called conservatives who are viciously attacking her, need to cool their jets. However, Rudy Giuliani is a liberal and a RINO. <<

Agree with you there. There are quite a few freepers who are quick to hurl the word "RINO" at someone who agrees with them 90% of the time because so-and-so voting against them on one bill, which happens to be their widdle pet issue.

Bennett, Malkin, and Medved are all pretty solidly conservative. Trent Lott is another person who's voting record is pretty conservative, however he is a gutless wonder (alot of freepers confuse "RINO" with "lack of spine".)

Coulter's overall stance on the issues is pretty predictably conservative. She's not a RINO, but she is a self-centered loudmouth who is more concerned with selling books and creating a buzz at speaking engagements than advancing the conservative cause. It's not what she says, it's how she says it.

Rudy Giuliani's record is NOT conservative, and I would say he is a RINO by national GOP standards. He was a better NYC mayor than Dinkins or Bloomberg the socialist, but comparing Rudy to Hillary is simply like comparing a center-left candidate to a hard left candidate. He had his chance to "beat Hillary" in NY and he tucked his tail between his legs and ran away. Too bad. He is far too liberal to be elected outside NY unless he's running in the RAT primary.

Peter King is the NY version of Illinois own Ray LaHood. King is a backstabbing "moderate" douchebag mascaraing as a "conservative". A quick look at his "record" in office will reveal that. He typically votes "our way" when it's convenient to do so. The guy has been a well known RINO for a decade now. His supporters are kind of taking the opposite approach, claiming this guy is "one of us" because he is solidly on corner on ONE issue -- right to life. The fact he's 100% pro-life makes him no more "conservative" than Kathleen Blanco or Mary Pryor. The fact King is pro-terrorist and relished his role as the no. #1 Clinton defender in Congress during the 90s more than cements his legacy as a RINO, whether he endorses Rudy or not.

Unfortunately for us, the DUmmies rarely have to deal with the problem of DINOs infesting the DNC because they're not as wimpy as the GOP. When the Dems are in a solid Bush state like North Dakota or Kansas, they don't play the 'if you can't beat 'em, join em' game and insist on running a hardcore pro-life, pro-gun, pro-family, pro-tax cuts, pro-WOT, Bush supporting Democrat. Instead, they run "stealth" liberals under the rader like Byron Dorgan, Kent Conrad, and Kathleen Selibus, and their track record of getting them in is actually pretty good.

Very rarely, we've done the same and elected people like Donald Cacceri in Rhode Island, but usually the powers that be force "electable" RINOs on us. Plenty of conservatives seem to fall for the "only RINOs can WIN in this state!!" rhetoric and instead focus on the failed Ned Lamont strategy of trying to "purge" Bush states of 90% conservative candidates and replace them with 100% conservative candidates. And so we eat our own, and until this changes, we can get used to saying "Speaker Pelosi" and "Majority Leader Reid" for the foreseeable future.

BTW, I wasn't aware Common Tator was banned, but you're right about his goofy posts proclaiming that RINOs are the savior of the GOP and that Reagan himself was a "RINO". He posts seemed to be something out the twilight zone. One time he posted a long opus about how we must support RINO Judy Baar Topinka for Governor because RINOs are the key to keeping Congress in GOP hands. How he equates a governorship with control of Congress I'll never know. Having a worthless RINO governor in 1998 certainly didn't help Illinois Republicans with redistricting.

Gotta love some of the "conservatives" on FR who vote based on personality rather than on the candidates ACTUAL record on the issues.

We'll supposed to believe Lindsey Graham is a "RINO traitor" when he has a 95% conservative record. Why? Because he's "light in the loafers" and backed McCain.

But although that makes him "too liberal", there's a whole chorus of people on FR who would have us believe that Peter King is a "true conservative" when he has a 65-70% conservative record and worships the likes of Bill Clinton, Rudy Giuluai, and the IRA. Why? Because he's a "straight shooter" and is "electable" in Long Island.

The double standards are simply amazing. Run people who agree with you 95% of the time out of office on a rail, but keep electing media whores who do the Dems bidding 30-40% of the time. Yeah, that's the key to victory.

As for me, I could care less if B-B-B-arney Fwawk's sound alike is a smooth talker on MSN. If we had more "light in the loafer" conservatives like Graham and less "straight shooter" Clintonites like King in Congress, we'd running the country right now.

Just a few years ago, Long Island Republicans used to have 4 out of 4 Congressional seats and now they have 1 out of 4. Perhaps they might consider finding "electable" conservatives for the other three seats instead of trying to defend the RINO who's "electable" in the last one.

The sad thing about all of this is that Clinton was right in 1998 when he said conservatives have a short memory. I never would have believed it, but it's true. Freepers vowed to "never forget" who sided with Slick Willie and who fought against all odds to oppose him.

They forgot within a few monthes.

There is an obvious distinction between the term RINO, which is what Rudy Giuliani is, and those conservatives who run around supporting liberals for POTUS. Conservatives who are backing Rudy have "betrayed" conservatism. You can't call yourself a conservative and then support someone who you agree with just 25% of the time. That doesn't cut the mustard. You may even be a moderate or a centrist who supports Rudy. Two more terms for "liberal". Like Hillary, Rudy Giuliani is an extreme leftist on the social issues. While showing some fiscal restraint by NYCity standards, as Mayor of NYCity Rudy was no fiscal cosnervative.

Ann Coulter is in the business of marketing Ann Coulter, first and foremost. Yeah, she may blow her horn, however, she also promotes the conservative agenda more then most rightwing columnists/pundits bloviating today. I like Ann.

>>>>>BTW, I wasn't aware Common Tator was banned ...

Never said he was banned. I've read his final replies and concluded he retired from FR. Figured he grew tired of debating conservatives like me on issues of substance. ;^)

indicated to who that he would overturn Roe?

the bottom line was - they didn't need to go to the 9th circuit to pick a SCOTUS nominee, it was risky, they were panicking in the wake of the Bork and Ginsburg events, it was sloppy, and it turned out poorly.
