Oh I would rank McCain as lower than Giuliani. Giulani has bad judgment and bad conduct.

But he's sane.

McCain is dishonest and crazy.

I agree but I still hold out that Reagan had executive experience. And on top of it, he had to crunch deals with unions,so he earned his stripes.

It's great if Thompson is a great communicator, that is very important.

But I still need to know more about how adept he is at running something.

Dear saveliberty,

Although I disagree with you, and would actually vote for Sen. McCain, I understand your position, and I really don't see any basis to criticize folks who refuse to vote for him.

If the new trend is for Socials to now grab the title "only true conservatives", thereby kicking the people who believe in live or let live out of the conservative camp -- how small will this new 'conservative' camp be?

OK, we have heard if often enough from this gruop, so here it is. Where you going to go? Vote Democrat?

Absolutely. Rudy will have to make it clear he won't pass any federal anti-gun legislation if he wants to win the R nomination.

One Columbine-like incident (God forbid it) could change that overnight.
Giuliani (being the condescending patrician a-hole that he is) will want to look "tough" on "gun crime" and will gladly sign away your Second Amendment rights.

How about.. Vote for the most conservative of the candidates instead of holding out for 100%...

Dear sitetest,

It's good to disagree and respect each other's positions. If there were a situation that the choice would be McCain or whoever was on the Dem ticket, I would not throw my vote away and vote Dem or stay home. If I have to choose what I think as the lesser of two evils, I will.

I would like to hope that there is a candidate that can win us over.

Thanks for your respectful commentary.

Cheers,

sl

An unlikely match. They are complete opposites for example on trade policy.

:-) Now that makes me smile.

We will see what happens-- it doesn't have to be resolved right now. If we start too early, we have a bigger risk of losing. That's the trap that the Dems are already making for themselves.

To be fair to Will, he is not exactly attacking Reagan. He is stating facts. If Reagan never did any of those things it would be a different story. The point Will is trying to make is that Conservatives should ease off on the litmus tests because even Reagan did things that were un-conservative.

Who is your choice if the vote comes down to Hitlery or Rudy?

The conservative camp is a coalition between 'social conservatives' and 'people who believe in a conservative use of federal power'.

True. A coalition means each group supports the views of the other in order to maintain the coalition.

When fiscal conservatives trash the opinions of social conservatives they help destroy the coalition as do social conservatives should they question fiscal conservatism.

When a fiscal conservative says he favors abortion and shows no regard for the opinions of the social conservatives it is he, not the social conservatives, who is destroying the coalition.

It is possible to be pro-choice and still be a Conservative.

Not if you want to be part of a coalition with social conservatives.

He's already said things to that effect, and he's known for speaking what he really means, so we'll see.

If he's known for speaking what he really means, why shouldn't we judge him on all the anti-Second Amendment statements (and actions) he has made before he decided to run for president?

I'd rather the frog jump out of the hot water, instead of the heat being turned up gradually so that it dies.

I'll vote 3rd party, because I'd rather have an enemy in my face with friends at my side than get stabbed in the back by an "ally."

And I mean it, so if you want my vote for your pathetic party, then consider working to nominate someone who isn't TERRIBLE in so many ways.

George Will and Rudy Giuliani are both cut from the same effete, big-government, Northeastern, urban cloth. The only difference between them is Will's bowtie.

Is it possible to be pro-abortion, pro-gay, pro gun control, pro illegal immigration, a global warming true believer, and considered conservative
