Giuliani Leads McCain in Race For the Republican Nomination (WSJ poll)
Wall Street Journal ^ | March 7, 2007 | JOHN HARWOOD

Posted on 03/07/2007 8:08:56 PM PST by FairOpinion

A new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll shows that among Republicans, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has climbed into a solid lead for his party's nomination for the White House. Boasting support across his party's ideological spectrum, Mr. Giuliani leads Arizona Sen. John McCain by 55% to 34% in a head to head match of the two top Republican candidates.

Mr. Obama trails Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton by a relatively narrow 47% to 39%

Among the poll's more striking findings is the high level of public interest fully 20 months before Election Day. About three in four Americans say they are following the campaign "fairly" or "very" closely; that's not far below the proportion that reported paying close attention to the president race in October 2000 -- one month before the election.

What can you say? It would be bad, very bad, to have a Republican candidate that was in favor of killing babies. But not as bad as ending up with a Hillary or Obama as Prez.

Bad News for Modern Man.

Rudy already said he would nominate judges like Alito and Scalia.

And you know what kind of judges would Hillary appoint.

I was at a fundraiser tonight for Rudy. I consider myself a conservative in every sense. Rudy made it clear in his remarks that he did not agree with me on everything, but he did say some things that were very interesting. The most interesting comment he made was in response to a question from the audience which was: "If you knew then what we know now, would you have invaded Iraq?" He replied, "Absolutely." He reasoned that we are at war with terror and need to stay on the offensive (which is why we have been relatively attack free since 9-11). Saddam, he said, was a leading supporter of terror and our policy needs to be that we deal firmly with those states that harbor and support terrorists. He even said he would have made many of the same mistakes in Iraq that have been made, although he was very firm on the fact that we were about 150,000 troops short of what he would have committed to the occupation.

He also made it clear that he believes marriage is an institution of a man and a woman, but civil unions should be permitted. He opposes abortion and would personally counsel any woman against it and to seek adoption; however, he believes in the woman's right to choose. I disagree, but he felt that it was no place for government. He also reiterated his conviction to appoint justices in the Roberts-Scalia mold.

He was a tremendous speaker. Very at ease with the audience and made solid connections. Just the right amount of humor and self-deprecating candor. I came away much more impressed by him than I expected to be before meeting him.

He is far from perfect, but I am not a single issue voter. I disagree with many of his positions, but I believe that on balance he would be an effective leader and move the country in the right direction. I will follow him more closely and watch for consistency.

>>>A new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll shows that among Republicans, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has climbed into a solid lead for his party's nomination for the White House.

This is very misleading. The poll was asked of 208 people with only 90 people answering the question of McCain and Giuliani as the represented candidates. Not the republican candidates.

One of the things I like about him is that he is one of the few who hasn't bailed on the Presdent over Iraq.

Hey F.O.!! Check out THESE " Brain Trusts " here!

They very same BELT-WAY, Insiders too? Who actually had the NERVE to "complain" last year IN THEIR MAG!- that, "...and the Free Republic " Ban the Slimes " Rally-held outside the Slimes Building Protesting the Release (by the SLIMES) of Information (LEAKS! damn it!! of NATIONAL SECRETS!!) relating to the N.S.A. program, was in BAD TASTE and "Counter Productive!" to Conservative Causes everywhere...."

ALSO have THIS in their latest issue:

" The CASE for McCAIN " ...N.R. edition; by Ramesh Ponnuru,

Reads:pg 35, 5th paragraph down-last sentence.

Paraphrasing,"..."IF" this happens and THAT happens to Romney and Giuliani...then....:

THEN this DIRECT Quote:

"...I think conservatives will give him a second look...

(And three little spacing dots after this wild forcast he says,)

"...as they SHOULD."

AS WELL WE "SHOULD"!!??--since WHEN!!??

MAYBE they think we will ...AFTER we "FORGET" all about the McSHAME/FEINGOLD bill!! Right!!

BEWARE EggHeads with their OWN agenda!--'cause I do not know about YOU!--but I have a LONG memory! And IF the Regular, Average American Conservatives/Republicans COME TO THEIR SENSE FROM the NOVEMBER ELECTION SNAFU- After Witnessing what has been Going ON-(Like LIBBY-LIKE Murtha! LIKE Hillary's ; " IF Bush doesn't END this war !!(before he leaves office) "I" Certainly WILL when "I" am ELECTED!!")

We Will ALL also remeber EVERY "Anti-Conservative- RHINO Type action comitted by McShame!(p.s.: What IS the DEAL with HANNITY? and his nose so far up...what's the KISSY-KISSY job he gives McShame whenver he interviews him? Can ANYONE Answer me that?

I detest McCain.

I am very happy that it looks like we won't have the nightmare choice of McC vs. Hillary.

Well, Hillary says she's against judicial activism; and since we're only supposed to take them at their word, why fear Hillary?

Hey Zebra!!

Know what else too! I heard Mr.G. on a show say, "What MY PERSONAL past and still held views are NOT the Ones to be "supported"-but the ones the AMERICAN PEOPLE TELL me are!"--

AS compared to some "other" Candidates who have said, " "I" Know what's RIGHT for AMERICA!"

Which is HOW we did end up WITH things like, "The McShame/Feingold" bill!

"...I am very happy that it looks like we won't have the nightmare choice of McC vs. Hillary..."

What makes you think McSHAME wouldn't--because of his ego!!--pull a "ROSS PEROT"-- and

OFFER HIMSELF as "HILLARY'S RUNNING MATE"! to "...Bridge the Great Devide between the Parties and BRING AMERICA United once again!..."

He WOULD do that--JUST TO GET EVEN with NOT getting the Primary/nomination!--PEROT did it!!
