FReeper Canteen~Active Denial System~08 Mar, 2007

The Active Denial System (ADS) is a non-lethal, directed-energy weapon system under development by the U.S. military. It is a strong millimeter-wave transmitter used for crowd control (the "goodbye effect"[1]). Raytheon is currently marketing a reduced range version of this technology."[2]
The ADS works by directing electromagnetic radiation at a frequency of 95 GHz[3] toward the subjects. The waves excite (see Excited state) water molecules in the epidermis (skin) to around 55 °C (130 degrees Fahrenheit), causing an intensely painful burning sensation. While not actually burning the skin, the burning sensation is similar to that of a light bulb being pressed against the skin.[3] The focused beam can be directed at targets at a range of just under half a kilometer, or 500 yards[4]. The device can penetrate thick clothing, although not walls[4]. There is no indication on the feasibility of electromagnetically shielding a person from its effects with a wire mesh, in a similar manner that a microwave oven prevents radiation escaping.
A higher radio frequency is chosen because, as a property of electromagnetic waves (known as "skin depth"), they are unable to penetrate the body as deeply as lower frequency waves, thereby affecting external organs only, such as skin. The United States Military states the effect "penetrates the skin to a depth of less than 1/64 of an inch."[1] A spokesman for the Air Force Research Laboratory described his experience as a test subject for the system: "For the first millisecond, it just felt like the skin was warming up. Then it got warmer and warmer and you felt like it was on fire.... As soon as you're away from that beam your skin returns to normal and there is no pain."
The ADS is currently only a vehicle mounted weapon, however, U.S. Marines and police are both working on portable versions. A fully operational and mounted system was demonstrated Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia. A Reuters correspondent who volunteered to be shot with the beam during the demonstration described it as "similar to a blast from a very hot oven - too painful to bear without diving for cover."[5] As of January 2007, the system has entered extended user evaluation phase, and is currently deployed with the Air Force's 820th Security Forces Group (SFG) at Moody air force base in Georgia, USA. 820 is the first unit selected to conduct these tests. The system will be evaluated in assisting troops in securing base perimeters, checkpoints and entry control points during peacekeeping and humanitarian assistance, and crowd dispersal.

Jesus Cried
READ:
John 11:21-35Jesus wept. John 11:35 A friend whose young daughter was killed in a car accident in May 2005 told me: "I cried easily before Natalies accident. . . . Now I am always crying. Sometimes the tears just slip out."
Anyone who has suffered such intense personal tragedy understands what she is talking about.
Is there anything wrong with crying? Or do we have biblical evidence to suggest that its okay to cry?
Jesus gives us the answer. Lazarus, a close friend of His, had died. When Jesus arrived at the home of Lazarus sisters, they were surrounded by friends who had come to console them. Jesus saw Mary and Martha and their friends mourning, and He too was overcome. Sorrowing with them, "Jesus wept" (John 11:35).
Sadness, tears, and mourning are familiar territory for everyone on this eartheven for Jesus. His tears tell us that its okay if tears "just slip out." And they remind us that the reason tears of sorrow will be extinct in eternity is that "there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain" (Rev. 21:4).
When God wipes out the effects of sin, He will wipe out the need for tearsone more reason to look forward to eternity.
God shall wipe away all tears;
Theres no death, no pain, nor fears,
And they count not time by years,
For there is no night there. Clements
Heavenno pain, no night, no death, no tears.

one could probably defeat this system by wrapping oneself in a wire mesh, or a chain mail [not in direct contact with the body, but with some clothing or air between it and the body, as the chain mail has always been worn] with openings ca 1/2 wavelength - i.e. ca 1.5mm diameter [like the mesh used in the microwave ovens' doors] the body will be protected and the beam energy dissipated in heating the said chain mail coat, which will simply radiate it away [there is not that much energy anyway]. I fully expect the medieval clothing fashions become fashionable again.
