Hundreds die from deadly bacteria
JERUSALEM, March 7 (UPI) -- Doctors said an antibiotic-resistant bacterium known as Klebsiella pneumoniae has killed as many as 200 patients in hospitals across Israel.
Elderly patients and people with weak immune systems are particularly vulnerable to the bacterium, Arutz Sheva reported.
Epidemiologist Yehuda Carmeli of the Sourasky Medical Center in Tel Aviv said 400 to 500 people have been infected by the bug.
"Thirty to forty percent of them have already died," Carmeli told YNetNews. "However, it is important to note that most of them were in a serious condition, and some were suffering from prior medical conditions."
Infectious diseases specialist Dr. Galia Rahav told Israel's Channel 1 that 130 patients at Sheba Hospital have become infected. One-third of those patients have died.
YNetNews said the Israeli Health Ministry has set up a committee of experts to "determine the scope of the problem and advise hospitals on how to contain it."

This is a tough anerobic encapsulated bug. Usually opportunistic with older people (pneumonia). Wash your hands and all equipment. Fecal matter is a primary transmitter.

Bacteria of this and similar types are killing large numbers of people all over the developed (and we should assume, undeveloped) world.
In the State of Arizona alone, the annual death rate from iatrogenous, or hospital contracted, infections is in the hundreds, mostly the "flesh eating bacteria".
But that and other diseases are endemic to prisons and other institutions.

My baby brother in Israel had pneumonia in both his lungs. He says he is better now, but I'm going to have to ask him about this.

What time span is this, that's important. 200 in the past week? The past year?

I remember reading an article that the British system is having a hard time getting Muslims to use the instant alcohol hand cleaners in each room. Also, muslims do not use toilet paper. I wonder if this might be part of this.

Klebsiella pneumonia is ubiquitous. I find it in sawdust and bedding used by horses. It is often we have this in our contaminated wounds and we have to use all sorts of tricks to get through that thick mucocalyx that it has. Grossly morphologically appearing like Pseudomonas spp is has a little more "snot" factor than Pseudomonas spp...

Muslims don't use toilet paper? Okay, Okay, we know they are stuck on primitive. But..but they do wipe don't they.... On Sears Roebuck catalogs, Almanacs, news papers.....corn cobs?.......they do wipe it off their fingers and wash their hands.....right?.......right?
Damn! Just damn!

I think the rags eat with one hand and wipe with the other. If you get caught stealing you sometimes loose the eating hand.

I believe you are shunned from eating with other people around the table ever again. You can't put the wiper hand in the food bowl!

So in reality, the hacking off of the none wiping hand is a sentence of death by starvation. Or are his/her relatives or friends allowed to feed the amputee?

Or to stealing, for which if caught, would cost them their wiping hand.

Also, muslims do not use toilet paper. he says, while I'm eating a chocolate muffin and coffee.
It's a good point, though ... proper sanitation may be more important than antibiotics in dealing with opportunistic infections.
