Comic superhero Captain America is assassinated
New York Daily News ^ | March 7 2007 | Ethan Sacks

Captain America is dead.

The Marvel Entertainment superhero, created in 1941 as a patriotic adversary for the Nazis, is killed off in Captain America #25, which hits the stands Wednesday.

As Captain America emerges from a courthouse building, he is struck by a sniper's bullet in the shoulder and then hit again in the stomach, blood seeping out of his star-spangled costume.

His death is sure to ignite controversy in the comic book world - still reeling from Superman's death in 1993 and resurrection the following year - and even political pundits, who may see Captain America's demise as an allegory for the United States.

"It's a hell of a time for him to go. We really need him now," said co-creator Joe Simon, 93, after being informed of his brainchild's death.

Simon and artist Jack Kirby came up with the character in 1941 as an adversary for Adolf Hitler. Since then, the patriotic hero has appeared in an estimated 210 million copies sold in 75 countries.

Brian Kilmead was talking about this on Fox and friends. He was surprised that in a time of war they would kill off an American Icon that represents American might. Said it was agenda driven and symbolizes to the writer of the comic, the demise of America. He described the writer as a 40 year old which I then deduced that he looks like the typical metrosexual commie...Black spectacles, messy hair..you know the type.

(/s)The Washington DC homosexual lobby group wants the murder investigated because they state this is a hate crime as a result of George Bush's don't ask don't tell policy (even though clinton enacted it to save himself from further public backlash). They are demanding the next captain american be an unclossetted homosexual.

In related news, Al Queda has taken credit for the assasination.

In related news news, Iran is claiming exclusive credit...

killed off in Captain America #25...

Sixty-five years and only 25 issues? Sounds more like a Captain France work ethic!

(Yes, yes, I know they renumber...)

The information is interesting, but I was really more interested in giving the poor guy a few extra paygrades that doing any actual research. :)

The fact that a comic character dying is breaking news on Fox shows just how sad we have become.

Marvel has tinkered with the character for as long as I can remember. Back when I collected (Mid 80s to 00) I recall some readers were writing in to complain that Captain America and Demolition Man were getting too friendly with each other.

Well, consider that he was fighting alongside the Army in Europe during WW II, that is a big clue. Also, I believe it was explained in the comics that he was given that rank.

Sure, it's a symbol.

But I am not going to get overwrought about a FICTIONAL CHARACTER who is now "dead".
Give me a break, people. There are actual soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan dying.

That's who we need to be concerned with.

I didn't know "leftists" owned the rights to Captain America. Perhaps you should try to look at it for what it really is: a marketing stunt.

The shooter is believed to be Muhammed Al-Bahgdadi Al-Akbar. The FBI has already ruled that terrorism is not a motive.

They are looking for a possible accomplice "Ah Sheet ma draws"

Please.

This thread has nothing to do with Giuliani (which is how you spell that name, by the way).

"Any news on Santa Claus?"

Last I heard he ran away with the tooth fairy and is having a steamy "Mile High" affair. Ms. Claus and elves are devastated. Ms. Claus last seen buying adult diapers at local K-Mart.
