I disagree. The writer overestimates the number of conservatives who will stay home and severely underestimates the number of independents and moderates who will vote for Rudy.

I think Rudy takes NY, all or most of the south, maybe CA, and wins it all.

I didn't vote for Specter (I voted 3rd party), but I would vote for Rudy.

I agree... I think Rudy probably could win the general election, it's the Republican primary which he will (thankfully) have trouble with.

Personally I think he should be running as a Democrat.

LOL!

Oh, yes. The South has a long history of voting in lockstep with New York. (/s)

You're dreaming. Rudy looses the South...big time. He'd have a shot in VA and FL, but that's it.

From the article...If the party again removes the Evangelicals who stayed home in 2000, PLUS some of the other social conservatives, some of the Second Amendment voters, and some of the defend the borders voters, there is no way one can come up with a GOP win in 2008.

That's absolutely correct. And if you don't think Christian Conservatives will stay home rather than vote for a liberal just ask George H.W. Bush what he liked best about his second term.

I will not under any circumstances vote for Rino Rudy, I will go third party first.

***I think Rudy takes NY***

Then you're almost alone.

In NY state Rudy is behind Hillary in the latest Quinnipiac poll 50% to 40%. And he BARELY leads Hillary in FL (today's poll), and with the MOE it's a tie.

all or most of the south

Sure, do you know how many gun owners there are in the south?? You probably think algore carried Tennessee don't you? Most of the ones that would vote for him for doing his cousin cannot read and don't vote. Oh, I'm southern and I can make that joke, it's a southern thang.

This conservative will never ever vote for a liberal like Guiliani. My family (ok, only 4 votes) will vote Third Party--and do our best to convince others to vote Third Party or stay home rather than vote for a liberal, lawyer from New York (either one of them).

So you can easily replace us with liberals and independents? Maybe, maybe not---but regardless, enjoy your NEW Party.

I see you're willing to bet the White House on that. We'll see who is right next year.

I disagree too. When actually faced with the choice of Hillary or Rudy. Conservatives will have no problem showing up and voting for Rudy. They may pine for a different Republican candidate, but the thought of Hillary and Bill back in the White House will launch all conservatives to the polls in significant numbers.

The poll I'm running on a gun message board for a Hillary vs. Rudy race, third party is running over 2 to 1 against Rudy. The 2nd Amendment crowd will go third party and hope Klinton becomes a pariah like Karter in four years and that they can undo the damage. They are not voting for another RINO... period.

Especially if Rudy picks a conservative for VP.

I think you underestimate the estrogen vote. IF there is no difference between Hillary and Rudy (the one exception is that Rudy looks better in a skirt) then women vote for Hillary because she is a woman. I know that many "conservatives" will sit the election out if Rudy is the candidate. Why - so they can say told you so when Rudy grabs guns and makes the liberal era a golden calf.

I disagree with you.

I have always voted Republican, however, I will not vote for Rudy and have successfully pursuaded friends and family away from voting for him as well. Rudy is not a conservative and he comes from NO moral high ground. If the election comes down to voting for a liberal or for a liberal, I will vote for the liberal who at least proclaims to be one: the democrat. There is no difference beteen Rudy and Hillary on far too many issues that matter to me.

After seeing the pictures of him "in drag"...... I think I'm one of the conservatives that stays home if he gets the nomination. I don't want Hillary to be elected... but I can't vote for the drag queen.
