Wired Iraqi man questioned at L.A. airport

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Officials detained an Iraqi man during a security scare at Los Angeles International airport on Tuesday but said a suspicious object found in a body cavity search did not pose a threat.

The man, identified by law enforcement officials as Fadhel al-Maliki, 35, was detained at passenger screening at the airport just before 6 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

The bomb squad was called as a precaution and authorities said they found wires in his clothing and a magnet inside a lower body cavity.

The man was preparing to board a US Airways flight to Philadelphia. The flight left without the passenger but with his luggage aboard. It made an unscheduled landing in Las Vegas where the plane was thoroughly searched but nothing was found.

Magnetic & Massage Therapy of Champions.

The frequent occurrence of horses suffering from back and muscle injuries, which could not be fully treated by traditional veterinary medicine is not an unknown scenario. In the END, many of these injured horses could be cured: with a device that just looks like a regular horse blanket.

Trial run bomber checking out security or just a weirdo perv?

Read recently here or elsewhere about speculations that the next airplane suicide bomber may try to pack his rectum with explosives as a way of hiding them. This does sound like a dress rehearsal for such a plan.

Interesting. A magnet in a body cavity could do some damage to a backscatter imager I think.

If anybody remembers the scene where Swarzenegger and Tom Arnold are entering the "Omega Sector" building in the movie True Lies, then that is what we need at airports -- a full body X-Ray/Fluoroscope machine.

I think "modesty" concerns just had this type of scanner taken out of service at an Indian airport, but others have just gone into trial service at a few US airports.

Take five or six people and conceal disassembled bomb componentry in "body cavities," go to the lav one by one and hide the components ... voila. Bomb.

BINGO.

No reason to do that on the plane; it would be much easier to do so in a restroom inside the terminal before boarding.

Don't laugh, ok, but would they even need to go to a bathroom to assemble? Could a bomb work just by them all connecting their wires together?

Drat. Imagine all the TSA ass-wanding we little old ladies will now have to undergo just to board an aircraft.

Gives goose-stepping a whole new meaning.

Conceivably, yes - that could work, given the right design. I ain't laughing.

The flight left without the passenger but with his luggage aboard.

What? That's just nuts. I flew into Tokyo from Toronto Sunday and the flight was 4 hours late and I fell asleep in the departures lounge. I'm a very sound sleeper and didn't hear the boarding announcement. I woke up literally 2 minutes before they were going to pull my bag off the plane (made the flight).

I thought SOP was not to let unattended bags on a plane. There's got to be more to this.
