Unfortunately I think those that are predicting red flags are probably right. It really looks like Goodyear missed the mark on this one.

My personal opinion is that if we are dealing with a smaller fuel cell which means more pit stops then it is a bad idea to bring a tire that is so hard that it does not drive well.

I have always read these threads post race, but today Im on travel with my hotel TV and Trackpass so maybe I can contribute more.

Oh, and GO JUNIOR! :)

What can I say. I remember the day of bias ply tires.

That was back when the tires were tires and you adjusted your game plan to compensate for it. Now it seems to be the other way around.

The new track surface is a problem.

I just read an article somewhere ........here's an excerpt.

LAS VEGAS – We all have seen instances of good intentions going awry.

But occasionally those same good intentions, which at the outset may look genuine and sincere, reveal themselves to be more self-serving.

Such self-interest may be behind the changes at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

When Speedway Motorsports Inc. (SMI) chairman and CEO Bruton Smith decided – in the interest of "making the racing better" – to redo his Las Vegas track, the motivation may have been more financial than competitive.

snip~

Or at the least, after two days of racing activity on the newly configured track, Smith's decision appears to be an instance of good intentions going bad.

The track's new surface has added traction, which has forced Goodyear to bring a hard tire to this weekend's race in an effort to slow the cars down. And the cars have slowed, but the tires also have them racing on edge. The result, as described by Greg Biffle, "is like driving on black ice."

Sunday's UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 will most likely be a repeat of Saturday's debacle, with twisted sheet metal and double-digit cautions, and the fans will have Smith to thank for it.

And he's not finished yet.

Next up on Smith's list of things that will make the racing better is repaving fan-favorite Bristol Motor Speedway

YAhooooooooo

Yeah, I read about that too. It seems that the track resurfacing is not only a bit rough, but at the same time the increase in banking and the increased speeds as a result has amplified the problem.

From what Ive heard its not a problem of grip as far as the track surface is concerned as much as it is the tires that Goodyear brought to compensate for the increased speeds.

This should be interesting. I just hope for a safe race.

Suppose they're talking about 'tars'?

First they bellyache about them being too soft and blowing up and now they're too hard and you can't go 190 in the corners.

I also wonder how much input Nascar had in Goodyear's decision to bring a harder tar and slow them down. Of course, we'll never hear that part of the equation.

LOL. I think your right there. But they could always throw us for a loop and keep the cautions to a minimum. I was thinking though. Does anyone remember the last caution free race?

It also looks like the usual desert wind is blowing today.

Hambones interview shows that anyway.

Hope Mac's fire didn't go out on his grill.
