PETA TO AL GORE: YOU CANT BE A MEAT-EATING ENVIRONMENTALIST Tue Mar 06 2007 17:08:05 ET
The Most Inconvenient Truth: According to U.N., Animals Raised for Food Generate More Greenhouse Gases Than All Cars and Trucks Combined
Norfolk, Va. This morning, PETA sent a letter to former vice president Al Gore explaining to him that the best way to fight global warming is to go vegetarian and offering to cook him faux fried chicken as an introduction to meat-free meals. In its letter, PETA points out that Gores film, An Inconvenient Truthwhich starkly outlines the potentially catastrophic effects of global warming and just won the Academy Award for Best Documentaryhas failed to address the fact that the meat industry is the largest contributor to greenhouse-gas emissions.
In the letter, PETA points out the following:
· The effect that our meat addiction is having on the climate is truly staggering. In fact, in its recent report Livestocks Long ShadowEnvironmental Issues and Options, the United Nations determined that raising animals for food generates more greenhouse gases than all the cars and trucks in the world combined.
· Researchers at the University of Chicago have determined that switching to a vegan diet is more effective in countering global warming than switching from a standard American car to a Toyota Prius.
PETA also reminds Gore that his critics love to question whether he practices what he preaches and suggests that by going vegetarian, he could cut down on his contribution to global warming and silence his critics at the same time.
The single best thing that any of us can do to for our health, for animals, and for the environment is to go vegetarian, says PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk. The best and easiest way for Mr. Gore to show his critics that hes truly committed to fighting global warming is to kick his meat habit immediately.
Time to start a dead animal/chili thread. My husband and his friends always say it's unless something died in the preparation of a meal it's not really a meal -- it's just an appetizer.
Chilifuti? Ewwww! Maybe we could come up with a recipe, can it, and sell it to the carne-deprived.
Vegetarianism is its own punishment.
I'll become vegan if PETA wants to pay my therapy bills for my awful mood swings when I go without animal products for too long.
I can always count on you...SMOOCH!!!
"offering to cook him faux fried chicken as an introduction to meat-free meals."
If it's so good why do they even attempt to make it taste like meat?? I have never understood this and have had veggie friends try to push tofu "meat" on me on numerous occassions.
Give me the dead deep fried bird any day of the week!
This is interesting. The church of the environment ruthlessly threatens to excommunicate an important advocate for committing minor trangressions, but if the Catholic Church grumbles about abortion support, they are backward, intolerant and dangerous!
I'm not a vegetarian because I love animals. I'm a vegetarian because I HATE vegetables. I want to KILL them and EAT them!* :)
Crockpot Vegetarian Chili
2 Tbsp. olive oil
2 large onions, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 red bell pepper, chopped
1 green bell pepper, chopped
3 (14 oz.) cans diced tomatoes, undrained
2 tsp. cumin
1 Tbsp. chili powder
1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
10 oz. pkg. frozen corn
2 (15 oz.) cans black beans, drained and rinsed
1 cup picante or taco sauce
In a heavy skillet, saute onions in the olive oil until tender, stirring frequently. Add garlic and cook 2 minutes longer. Add cumin and cayenne pepper, and whatever other spices you might like. Cook for two minutes longer.
Mix all ingredients into a 4-5 quart slow cooker. Cover and cook on low about 10 hours. Serves 8-10
*Just kidding. Add a pound of cooked ground meat of your choice, maybe some crisped bacon...and you've got yourself some really good chili!

"OMG this too funnyI love when Demos and Libs eat their own"
Damn you got everybody in there ROFL
Just the coolest guy in the room.(As per the Grammys or whatever)
LOL!

What I experience is remembering that Gore's polling with women went sky high after that, and thinking what a huge mistake the 19th Amendment was. And don't even get me started on 16 and especially 17!

Maybe they'd allow Gore to eat those polar bears that are just going to be drowning anyway according to Gore. (even though they swim).
EThey're right. Environmentalism is a political issue. I prefer to think of myself as a conservationist.
Yes he can pay starving children in third world countries meat-eating credits to not eat meat. Brilliant. Even better if he can make a profit off of it and win an Academy Award at the same time.
Mmmmmmm.....fried dead bird
