Woman accused of tossing fruit at gays (charged with hate crime)

A Pacifica woman was arrested Sunday on suspicion of a hate crime for allegedly throwing fruit and vegetables at a gay couple while riding in a van, police said Monday.

Tiffany Adler, 20, who works at a grocery store, was a passenger in a van in Pacifica on Sunday when she spotted a gay couple who frequent the store, according to police.

As the van drove by around 7:50 p.m. on the 500 block of Esplanade Drive, she allegedly rolled down the window and threw apples and vegetables at them, police said. Later, the van turned around and approached the couple again as she allegedly yelled the word “faggot” at them.

The gender of the couple was not immediately known.

At least some of what was thrown appears to have hit the couple, according to the police report.

Adler, the only person arrested, was booked on suspicion of misdemeanor hate crime and misdemeanor battery and released.

“Her statement was that she wasn’t aware that they were gay,” police Sgt. Jim Tasa said. “She thought they were people that she had a prior conflict with.”

A court date has been set for April 13.

Hate Crime = Special laws to make our justice system unequal based on race, sexual orientation, or national origin. Laws that make offending certain people punishable by law, that are used in part to squelch freedom of speech.

A Hate Law is unconstitutional. All men are created equal was written in the declaration of independence. I wonder if this thought has any relevance today, now that we have a living Constitution and revisionist interpretation of what this nation was founded upon. Most never even read the declaration of independence or our Constitution, so what it says is really irrelevant. What might that phrase mean? Because it sure does not apply in our Justice system in many states that have special classes of protected people under their laws that make it extra illegal to do something against a racial minority, national origin, or sexual orientation.

We have laws against assault, defamation, trespassing, false imprisonment, etc etc etc. Any case where they slap hate crime onto it amounts to a person being punished extra hard because they victimized a special class of people.

So much for "Justice is blind". I wonder how many lawyers have a statue of Justice in their office? I wonder how many there are in courthouses somewhere? But then again, in a country where we now cover up statue's of Justice that are partially nude, maybe the meaning of what she represents simply no longer fits into our new extra fair society.
