All fruit should be banned. They are dangerous and can be a hazard to someone's health if used as ammunition. SAY NO TO FRUIT!

That's the thing. A crime is a crime regardless of the motivation. Generally there is some motivation for every crime, but regardless the crime is wrong. Should she be charged for throwing fruit at these people? Yes. Should she be charged for her underlying motivation? No, I don't think so. If hate crimes became more widespread, imagine how scary things could get. I mean say a person got in an argument and punched a homosexual or a minority, the homosexual or minority could claim that the motivation was due to sexual orientation or race when it was simply just due to a dispute. I think it could come to the point where peoples' free speech and even thoughts are serverly regulated for fear of being charged with a hate crime.

Of course they should not have thrown fruit at the...couple. The salient fact is that only because the couple was gay, this becomes a hate crime. What if I drove by in a van and threw fruit at my boss? I might be fired but certainly this would not be a newsworthy event. But to do anything that might be construed as gay bashing...or Muslim bashing...or racist...then you must be martyred. If we are to have equality and justice here, then it is no worse to throw fruit at fruits than to throw fruit at bosses. It is the throwing of physical objects that is the offense. If someone has a bad opinion of homosexuals, then that is their opinion. Who cares. There are ignorant opinions everywhere. That is not a criminal offense. I dislike the concept of thought crimes.
