Reid to Bush: No Pardon for Libby
ABC News ^ | March 6, 2007 | Paul Fidalgo

Posted on 03/06/2007 10:01:12 AM PST by West Coast Conservative

Moments after the guilty verdict handed to I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby was made public Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., called on President Bush to promise not to let Libby off the hook with a presidential pardon.

"I welcome the jury's verdict. It's about time someone in the Bush Administration has been held accountable for the campaign to manipulate intelligence and discredit war critics," said Reid in a press statement. "Lewis Libby has been convicted of perjury, but his trial revealed deeper truths about Vice President Cheney’s role in this sordid affair. Now President Bush must pledge not to pardon Libby for his criminal conduct."

Libby, a former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, was convicted on 4 of 5 counts of obstruction of justice, perjury and lying to the FBI in the investigation into the leak of CIA operative Valerie Plame's identity.

Yep, thats what I am waiting for. Bet you it won't happen. This party has given itself over to the MSMs and the RATs. I am starting to think I will just denounce it all and pray a lot that someone with some guts will come out and fight back. I guess I'll go weave baskets.

Two short years my a**. It already seems like the dims have been in power for many years and this mess is likely going to last for a couple of generations, if our country even lasts that long!

I would much rather see Libby pardoned that drug dealers and pedophiles (yes, Clinton pardoned at least one pedophile).

Maybe the Dems prefer their own, Democratic, method of handling war criticism...fully censor the press.

Full Wartime Censorship Placed on Korean War News , [Waterloo Daily Courier, front page | January 9, 1951 | UP ]

1. Correspondents were placed under jurisdiction of the army and were subject to court martial.
2. Correspondents could not criticize the conduct of the war and could not send demoralizing dispatches.
3. Correspondents could not quote officers and could not report casualties without authorization.
4. Many more rules at the link above.

Funny, I don't recall Reid criticizing Clinton for pardoning a gang of convicted terrorists.

Seems he's yet another Republican that refuses to recognize that he's in a war with his political enemies. You can't fight a war if you don't recognize that you're in one.

President Bush - TELL HARRY TO STUFF IT! Don't listen to this little miscreant.

Did you support Clinton's pardons? I didn't.

"No point in pardoning him until the appeals process has run its course."

That needs to be said again and perhaps for this crowd............ AGAIN and AGAIN. There is a required process to go through.

As for Reid and his tribe of cannibals, if they all dropped dead at the same time, I would buy an expensive bottle of wine to celebrate such a wonderful occasion..

What justice system?

If there was a justice system Bill Clinton, Sandy Buger and Hillary Clinton would be doing hard time. If there was a justice system, this investigation would have been terminated as soon as Fitz found out the Armitage was the source of the leak.

President Bush only has cojones against border agents that try and stop drug dealers from assaulting them...he surrenders whenever liberals or Dems push him around.

Sad, after Iraq I thought he'd fight enemies domestic, but nope.

Funny, I don't remember hearing anything about a "co-presidency" since the Clintons left the Whitehouse, and I know that Reid is NOT the POTUS!

Presidential pardons are part of the powers of the office of the President. And approving of them is NOT a power extended to any senator, even the senate majority leader!

I think that someone needs to send Dingy Harry a copy of "The Constitution for Dummies!"

Mark

I don't think we should allow people to circumvent our justice system just to "piss someone off".

I don't think that we should circumvent the law to create a metanarrative about how the evil Bush administration led us to war on lies. I don't however, think that the President should pardon Libby immediately because I think that the country needs to understand what the Post Modern Democrats are doing to this country by the twisting of the law to fit their story. If it can happen to Libby, it could happen to you or I. Don't think that it couldn't.
