You do a great disservice to some of our very loyal and patriotic statesmen when you paint everyone in elected office with such a broad brush. Simply being there to serve does not necessarily make one a "hack". Anyone who spends his/her entire career in Beltway politics is a "hack," as far as I'm concerned -- and that goes for elected officials, bureaucrats, media jack@sses, etc. If that upsets you, then too bad.
OK. Since he and his family have money, he is not entitled to sympathy for having his liberty stolen from him by a rogue prosecutor and jury? This is not a game, and this is not funny. Injustices like this must be confronted. If it can happen to him, it can happen to anyone.
My point is that it goes with the territory, so there's no reason to make a big deal about it. I don't remember seeing too much sympathy here for Betty Currie when she was getting run through the wringer back in 1998-99.

Oh yes there is. Believe me, if the pols can launch a successful personal vendetta and ruin the reputation of a man with enough money to get a good legal defense, they can for sure can your ass in a heart beat. And I'm beginning to think whether we elect R's or D's, it doesn't matter, because that day seems like it will come no matter what.
When one man's rights are violated, it weakens the protections against our rights.
Make sure you have your papers ready comrade.

Well we can disagree, but I consider people like Tom Coburn and Jim Demint to be true patriots. I am grateful that there are still a few decent people willing to serve, even if that means being lumped in with all the corrupt politicians by people who do not care to make a distinction.
Also, going to prison after a political railroading should never "go with the territory". How on earth are we supposed to get decent people to serve our interest in DC when this type of thing happens? I personally want to create an environment that encourages good people participate and serve in a government created by the people and for the people.
