Giuliani Estranged From His 2 Children
CBS ^ | March 5, 2007 | NA

Posted on 03/06/2007 1:20:45 AM PST by neverdem

It doesn't look like Rudy Giuliani's two children will have a role in his presidential campaign. According to media reports, the GOP frontrunner's third marriage has alienated his son, Andrew, 21, and daughter, Caroline, 18, from their father.

Giuliani's 21-year-old son, Andrew, told The New York Times that he would be too busy working on his golf game to participate in his father's presidential campaign.

"There's obviously a little problem that exists between me and his wife," the younger Giuliani told the newspaper. "And we're trying to figure that out. But as of right now it's not working as well as we would like."

Giuliani's marriage to his third wife, Judith Nathan, followed his divorce from Donna Hanover, the mother of Andrew and Caroline.

In 2000, Giuliani announced during a live TV interview that he planned to divorce Hanover. She responded by publicly accusing Giuliani of adultery.

Caroline Giuliani has not spoken publicly, but the Times and New York's tabloid newspapers reported that she was also alienated from her father as a result of his marriage to Nathan.

The New York Daily News reported that Giuliani rarely spends time with his children and that he had failed to attend many important events in their lives, including Andrew's golf tournaments and Caroline's school plays.

Campaigning in Southern California on Monday, Giuliani asked for privacy to deal with the strained relationship with his children.

"My wife Judith is a very loving and caring ... mother and stepmother. She has done everything she can. The responsibility is mine," Giuliani said. "The more privacy I can have for my family, the better we are going to be able to deal with all these difficulties."

Andrew Giuliani is a sophomore at Duke and a member of the school's golf team. Caroline attends a private school in Manhattan. She will attend Harvard University in the fall.

Giuliani holds a huge lead in the polls over GOP presidential rival John McCain, but some political analysts believe the former New York mayor's estrangement from his children and other personal problems is bound to inflict political damage.

Political analyst Charles Cook told Newsday that the latest twist would hurt Giuliani with the GOP's conservative voters.

"This is just going to be one of a thousand cuts," Cook told the newspaper. "This will just sort of fit into a whole constellation of issues that work against someone winning a conservative party's nomination, a party that thinks of itself as a pro-family party. This just makes it really hard."

"Maybe if they had a satisfying life of their own they would not be as lascivious-minded and angry as they are."

Maybe some of us just think our marriage vows are worth more than the ability to file a joint tax-return.

Does the name Jeff Gannon ring a bell?... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Gannon I can not think of any recent president from Roosevelt on, that did not have a turbulent home life.

Are we going to start having the Juliebots tell us that Jeff Gannon was Bush's secret gay lover? Apparently, it's not enough for them to constantly trash Ronald Reagan to drag him down to Rudy's level.

Let's See:

Married three times, everytime to ladies who were one can short of a six pack.

Kids don't think much of him.

Shacked up with a gay couple after his last divorce.

Yep, a man of sound moral fiber. But hey, at least he hates Arabs and can beat the all-powerful Hillary/sarcasm

BTW: Comparing Rudy to Reagan is like comparing a quarter pounder to a plateful of prime sirloin. There is no comparison!

WTF? Where did I even come close to makeing that assertion?

When have I ever ever trashed Reagan? Please show me where, you make the accusations show me where I 1.) Said Bush had a Gay Lover and it was Gannon, and 2.) Trashed Reagan even slightly?

First you say "Does the name Jeff Gannon ring a bell?", bringing up the fake WH reporter and erstwhile male sodomite prostitute Guckert.

Then you say, "I can not think of any recent president from Roosevelt on, that did not have a turbulent home life."

You're referring to Prez Bush and implying that the man-whore was somehow involved in a 'turbulent home life'.

How exactly do we escape the conclusion that you're saying that Guckert was involved with Bush if Guckert wasn't somehow part of a 'turbulent home life' with the Bushes?

Good point. Odd that anything about family life for Carter, Clinton was out of bounds for the media's nosey parkers. When a Pub gets some press, boy howdy, the media looks at when they were potty trained. I think Rudy G will overcome this because as with the Libby verdict, people realize that there is a double standard for any Goper.

"You're referring to Prez Bush and implying that the man-whore was somehow involved in a 'turbulent home life'."

Not even close, but I must say you have quite an active imagination.

I meant that from Roosevelt on, every president had a not so tranquil family life (from trouble with a wife to children, affairs, etc.) and that it's not like Giuliani would be setting some sort of precedent. How you got to gay lovers and the President I do not even want to know.

But please keep telling me what I really meant, perhaps this post really means I think the President is actually 3 crab people in a GWB suit.

It was in reference to a poster saying giuliani had campaign plants in the press pool to lob off topic and soft ball questions. Thus I brought up guckert/gannon who WAS a fake reporter and asked softball questions.

While I'm not a Rudy fan for president, I too am a divorced dad and estranged from one of my sons. Don't think being estranged from one of the offspring is something to hold against anybody.

I had nothing to do with nor spoke to my father for the last six years of his life, and that goes back to pre-puberty when he promised to spit on my grave if I died first. I at least never said anything like that to my children.

"This all just reeks of Donna Hanover's work."

I agree, veronica. From what I have read about her, she is not a very nice person, especially when it comes to Rudy. Their divorce could have been quiet and discreet, but she chose to flaunt it everywhere she could for publicity. Donna "Vagina Monologues" Hanover is a real piece of work.

As a divorcee, I can only look to the ex-wife to be the person responsible for the estrangement of the children. But there is one good shining ray. Wait until the kids are out of her grasp. Then you may see big changes in the children's attitude. I speak of this through experience.

I don't care one way or the other about his family situation. I care about his views on the Second Amendment and the Constitution. The media bringing his family into it is trashy.

Who really cares if he is estranged from them. They were probably influenced from his wife, the talking vagina.

As a Duncan Hunter supporter I am choosing not to engage in debate on this Rudy Giuliani thread on Free Republic. As a freeper I am disappointed that there are fans of a liberal presidential candidate trying to push socially liberal views on this socially conservative forum. In particular, I have noticed that the Rudy G fans do not answer posts questioning the qualitative substance of their candidate, or the posts are met merely with insults.

We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism, anarchism, government enforced atheism, abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, racism, wacko environmentalism, judicial activism, etc.

The way Rudy's campaign crew handled it is an even scarier glimpse into Mayor Rudeo's underhanded campaign tactics. Rudeo's family problems broke while visiting Arnie Schwarzenegger. As Rudy nervously explained his relationship with Andrew to a full court press...... the TV report noted Rudy's campaign aide was sitting with the press corps apparently "posing" as a reporter. As Rudy finished his shaky answer, his aide then stopped all discussion by throwing Rudy a question on another subject.......as if she was a disinterested reporter.

Your source on this is who?
