A blood clot was found in my mother's leg two years ago. She was prescribed coumadin/warfarin as a blood thinner, and sadly, is still on it to this day. I understand the medication is akin to rat poison, literally.

I've been on Coumadin (Warfarin) since they found a blood clot in my abdomen. It is the same stuff they use to kill rats, by thinning their blood so much they hemorrhage to death. In small doses it's safe.

Prayers up for the Veep.

Sep, 1974:

"In the debate over President Ford's pardon of his predecessor, the question of Richard Nixon's health emerged last week as a tantalizing issue. What role Nixon's mental and physical condition played in Ford's decision, and indeed what that condition was, were topics of conflicting reports and endless speculation. At week's end one fact became known: in a new attack of thrombophlebitis, Nixon has another painful blood clot in his left leg."

Wow, how long ago did this happen? Doctors don't want patients with DVT's out of bed until they've been on thinners for several days in case the clot breaks off.

If it's been more than five days, Dick Gregory will be working on a good snivel and whine session because HE wasn't told.

Good to know there is an effective modern treatment for his condition.

May Mr. Cheney recover quickly. He has to stick around to see his new grandchild that is on the way.

Let's don't bury the man just yet.

Santorum or Pence will do just fine though.

Thank you, your post was reassuring. At age 86, Warfarin is the only prescribed medication she takes. I believe the only noticable side effect is meanness. I could have sworn she'd been taking it for decades. :(

I'm not burying him. He may decide to take time out for health reasons... and this changes '08 completely if he does.

Cheney has blood clot in leg, not hospitalized
Mon Mar 5, 2007 3:28pm ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Doctors found a blood clot in Vice President Dick Cheney's left leg on Monday but he was not admitted to a hospital and will be treated with blood thinning medication, his office said.

Cheney, who has a history of heart troubles, went to his doctor's office after he "experienced mild calf discomfort," his office said in a statement.

"An ultrasound revealed a deep venous thrombosis (DVT) or 'blood clot' in his left lower leg," it said. "His doctors will treat him with blood thinning medication for several months. The vice president has returned to the White House to resume his schedule."

Big prayers for VP:! Besides the family loss, only have a nightmare about Pelosi being one heartbeat from the presidency instead of two.

Anyone--if the Speaker ever became Pres. would he/she get to serve until the next election, o would there be a special election?

"Gee I thought the libs were so tolerant and caring. Hate filled jerks!"

Yeah, their rooting for Cheney's assassination was way over the line. Showed how irrational they really are.

No doubt the DUmmies are whooping it up over Cheney's illness, behaving waaaay worse than Ann Coulter ever has. VP Cheney has been made out to be an ogre by the media and the Left (oops, redundancy).

But nothing could be further from the truth. Reality is that Cheney is one of the most decent men on earth, as well as a great VP.

I hope the strain of watching Scooter Libby's prosecutionpersecution isn't getting to him. Get well soon Mr. Vice President!
