Webb to Introduce Legislation Barring Funding For Military Action Against Iran

Monday , March 05, 2007

WASHINGTON — A Democratic senator is introducing legislation Monday that would deny funding for the Bush administration to take military action against Iran without getting congressional approval first.

Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., has long argued that Iran must be part of a regional solution to end the war in Iraq, and has repeatedly concerns that the Bush administration deems the 2002 congressional resolution authorizing force in Iraq applicable to Iran.

Webb's amendment would prohibit Bush from spending any money on a "unilateral military action in Iran without the express consent of the Congress."

Webb told FOX News last week that some exceptions would be permitted, for instance it would allow to the continuation of the current effort to stop Iranians interfering in Iraq. Webb said his concern came about when he compared the 2002 authorization to go to war in Iraq with the presidential signing statement accompanying it clarifying prerogatives the administration deemed permissible under the authorization.

He said the ambiguity in the signing statement leaves room for the president to interpret the authorization as authorizing war with Iran. And, Webb said, according to the signing statement, the president retains the right to take military action "to respond to threats against American military interests."

Webb said his decision to lay out the prohibition is an effort at "putting the stake in the ground."

That's what the Democrats, Liberals, MSM want, they are inviting our enemy's to attack us at will, and and want to hamper us in any effect to defend ourselves.
If we get attacked again, they ( Liberals, MSM, Democrats will tell us that we deserved it, and we can't do anything about it.
They main adjective is to destroy the USA economy to make our military weak.
The MSM, Liberals, Democrats ARE our enemy.

"Webb proves that "once a Marine, always a Marine" is no longer true."

In Webb's case, it is "once a moron, always a moron."

*****Thank you for staying home and punishing the President.......you know who you are!!!!!!!!!!!*****

Aw c'mon, the Senate wasn't lost due to any punishment of the President or anyone sitting home. Schumer had zero hopes of taking the senate (quote Chuckie).

So there's the senate right there. Forget about DeWine or other R senators who were up to their necks in corruption scandals.

And the House - maybe some seats were 'payback'. But most of those RATS ran to the right of the R's. The RINO's in the House went down because the brain dead Oprahite sheeple, are sheeple - spoon fed BS by the MSM.

Hopefully the radical actions of Webb and other Dems in the Senate will help Sen. Lieberman restore a sense of rationality to some of them.

And to think, there are actually some freepers here who voted for this nitwit. What were they thinking? Wrong question. Why weren't they thinking?

"...the president retains the right to take military action to respond to threats against American military interests."

Why we couldn't have that, now could we? Tie Bush's hands so that he needs to beg frauds like Webb and Murtha for permission for the military to defend itself once attacked. That's a winner if I ever heard one.

The Virginia election was stolen at the last minute.

No, it wasn't.

Everyone of those late reporting precincts voted exactly as predicted.

The left wing loons and their buddies in the MSM are too busy thinking of ways they will protest or create fiction that they have completely forgotten about the process and how slim of a majority the Rats really have.

His lead was 'quote' insurmountable.

Actually it wasn't. But every move in response was totally bungled.

It would serve Webb right if the first Iranian nuke is detonated in Virginia.....in front of HIS house.

Wow, I didn't see *that* coming.

OK, that was sarcasm, but I guess the GOP and the Admin didn't. If they had, I'd be reading about a GOP Sentor introducing legislation to make it formal American policy that Iran should not get nukes and threatening action, including force, to prevent it.

NJ voted for a man clearly unethical and under investigation.

We should have been relentless in encouraging people to vote R......not whining about this RINO or that RINO. The cost was too high, our troops paid the price and our allies are beginning to wonder about our reliability.

Exactly. And believe me I took plenty of flaming for my adamant insistent that republicans support ALL our candidates, whether too liberal for some or not.

The vitriol heaped on me was over the top but they just didn't get it......and now our troops get it...in the neck.
