Had a democrat said something similar (or even much worse) about a conservative, the media would certainly laugh it off as a good-natured jab and then cast anyone who disagreed as a thin-skinned ninny. And to top it off, there is no doubt that the Breck Girl is going to milk it hard for all it's worth.
He is the only reason President Hillary Clinton isn't the scariest idea in the history of the world.
I'd run the Hillary campaign before I'd even think about voting for Edwards.
I can't help but think that this was a calculated move on Ann's part. The timing of her comment can be used to demonstrate the classic media bias that exists in this country with the MSM. We have one, who has been outspoken against the war and who literally "wished" that our enemy in war had succeeded in killing the current VP of the United States, gets a pass because of his freedom of speech. Ann's comment, which I think she stooped down to the level of the democrats by the name calling, and quite frankly could cut anyone in pieces with far more entertaining comments, gets splashed across the headlines by the MSM. As pointed out earlier in this thread and what I saw in the clip on TV, she really didn't say the Breck boy was a faggot, she said you can't use that word when talking about the Breck boy.
Updates:
Some defenders think there's no difference between Coulter's crude "faggot" remarks about Edwards and Laura Ingraham's gentle mockery of Edwards' vanity when she describes him as a "Silky Pony" on her radio show. The latter is witty. The former is witless. That's the difference.
A reader at Hot Air, where debate is contentious, recommends re-reading George Washington's Rules of Civility & Decent Behaviour In Companyand Conversation.
Rule 110:
"Labour to keep alive in your Breast that Little Spark of Celestial fire Called Conscience."
RightWingNews blogger John Hawkins, a longtime Coulter fan, writes:
What's on tap for next year? Will she drop the N-bomb? Will she use the C-word to describe Hillary Clinton? Whatever her plans are, after being burned twice in a row, CPAC shouldn't invite her back next year.
Some readers are accusing me of not having a sense of humor. Au contraire. I laughed quite heartily at commenters and e-mailers who think my criticism is motivated by "jealousy," "left-wing tendencies," or my "need for attention." Triple-snort-worthy!
You are ignorant of all logical fact.
Do a keyword search on Whoopi, see what she said during a Kerry fundraiser.
She used vulgar language and was denounced by many freepers.
Ann does the same damn thing and now our side is cheering.
In fact Whoopi was dropped by Slimfast becasue of what she said that night.
Its idiots like you that give FR a bad name.
Agreed. The only ones being made fools of are the Republicans and FReepers falling for the Demorat propaganda.
I agree with Ann, and she should not apologize for what she said.
It's amazing to see so many so-called "conservatives" with their panties all wadded up over Ann's remark.
Curt at http://www.floppingaces.net/ was one of the few bloggers on the right who got it right. He explained that Ann, about a month before CPAC on Fox News, mocked the idea that someone (namely Grey's Anatomy star, Isaiah Washington, who used the word twice in reference to a co-star on the show and then went into rehab after the dust-up over it) should have to be "rehabilitated" for using a word that is considered a slur against gays.
Coulter explained that going to rehab was "a way of avoiding the actual bad thing you did," like "have an affair with your aide's wife" (an obvious reference to San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsome, who apologized for his affair).
The term "politically correct" is itself politically correct newspeak for "cultural marxism." Read all about The Origins of Political Correctness at http://www.academia.org/lectures/lind1.html
Take Ann's comment for the joke that it was, and geez, folks, please stop acting like permanently offended idiotarian liberals!
She does not need round-the-clock approval of the few on the right who were "offended."
The leftists with their patented feigned umbrage always have something. The issue is not the issue. Issues are weapons and the weapons are always aimed at effective opponents like Ms Coulter.
Frankly, much of the criticism among some of her own IMO are examples of professional jealousy, resentful desire for her advantages; to wit, she's popular and they're not and her books sell big time.
Ann Coulter made conservatives look like idiots with what she said at CPAC. That's what this is all about.
That's your opinion even if it is wrong. Freedom of speech applies to Queen Ann just as it does you.
Now if you would please post the unacceptable jokes we can march in lockstep with you thoughtnazis.
Pray for W and Our Troops, unless praying offends you?
"C'mon Sean boy, your turn, you can do it, C'mon!"
I'm serious, it is like the twilight zone, gnashing of teeth and "what will the neighbors think?". If you were bothered by it say it was rude and move on but this "righteous indignation" and massive concern for the bad press is quite frankly a sign of weakness and almost Orwellian. The day we let the press dictate what we do might as well stick a fork it us and the whole damn country.
See post 73.
Ann Coulter is our Whoopi Goldberg.
When you address me - NEVER USE "OUR" Got it? I have nothing in common with clueless people. Thanks. I hope this isn't too over the top for you to understand.
Ann Coulter has degraded into a "bomb thrower" to get attention. Like Matt Drudge said tonight, it'll probably work as she increases her speaking fees.
