Rudy Giuliani will appear at a high-profile press conference with California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger Monday during a two-day jaunt to raise campaign cash on the West Coast.
The former mayor and The Governator are scheduled to discuss gang violence and crime.

I am not sure what happened this time around with republicans. the way this race has "setup" here in the early going, was quite predictable. and the portions of the base who are upset with particular candidates - also predictable. why no other candidates saw this as an opportunity to get in, I don't know.
but at some point, if nothing new emerges, we have to play the hand we are dealt. we can't just "fold".

I have no idea with any response here but the two RINOs can kiss my a$$ & become democrates & I'll applaud. Cheap suits both to true conservativism.
Cutting taxes, cutting the size of government and protecting the USA from assault, are all VERY Republican, not to mention Conservative positions.
Rudy is not a Dem, nor a RINO and to state that is not only specious, but completely disingenuous.
My opinion is a truly well-spoken conservative could convince better than a majority of americans to vote for them. On the other hand, the message is muddled enough (the internet is good and bad in that regard) that it's hard for a "great communicator" to take command like Reagan did against Carter, because of the parsing of every word said.
But yes, too big is bad. The strategy in the modern era is to stop building districts that are 70% one party, and instead shoot for making every district 51% your party. You fine-tune the party message to put just enough throwaway social issues on your side to get to that 50% + 1 that will put you over the top while giving up as little of your base beliefs as possible.
I'm not actually saying I like that aspect -- I think some of the "divisions" of the parties are contrived for this purpose, but the point of not wanting to win too big is not controversal, and is in fact pretty accepted.
After all, how could any of us really like a candidate that one 100% of the vote? Could you really like a candidate that DailyKos could support? How many sane people on the "other side" do you think there are that could easily be swayed to vote against their party in the particular climate of party primacy? What are you willing to give up of your agenda to get that extra 10%?
For example, we got tax cuts through with a good, but not great, bipartisan majority. What tax cuts do you think we should have given up to get another 6 senators, or another 20 representatives? We could have gotten more if our side was willing to vote for ANYTHING, but why bother?
I think Rudy is handing away too much of the store for a limited portfolio of truly good positions on issues, simply because people are depressed about losing in 2006 and can't stand the idea of it happening in 2008.
Likewise, Pennsylvania, and even (gulp) New York?
I see we are in sync now.
the more I see of McCain, if this "Rudy implosion" his campaign managers are banking on, does not occur, to bring the nomination to him - the more I see a bitter man who might run as an independent.
When Rudy takes California, Illinois, New York, and New Jersey on GigaTuesday 2/5/08, the primary season for Republicans will be effectively over.
The 3rd party wackos better donate to Buchanan now while there is still time.

It is the new Congress. The Electoral Votes are counted on January 6th, 3 days after the new Congress is sworn in. Not trying to brag but I just graduate from Wake Forest recently with a degree in PolSc. My senior seminar was on the 2004 Elections during the Fall of 2004 and I wrote my seminar paper on the Electoral College. I know how it works as well as I know the back of my hand.

For what it is worth, Oklahoma votes on 5 Feb as well as some other states. I want us to be part of the group that puts him over the top in one year from tomorrow. A lot of Oklahomans remember that Rudy was one of the first people to call and offer help after the OKC Bombing and then sent in some crack rescue people right away.
