Enter Ann Coulter.
Her "faggot" joke was not just a distraction from all the good that was highlighted and represented at the conference. It was the equivalent of a rhetorical fragging--an intentionally-tossed verbal grenade that exploded in her own fellow ideological soldiers' tent.
There are countless conservatives who bring their children to CPAC. It's a family-friendly event. I brought mine last year and the year before. I met several parents with their kids there this year. We expect CPAC to be a place where conservative role models speak with clarity, passion, and integrity. There are enough spewers of mindless filth, vulgarity, and hatred on TV, at the movies, and in the public schools. We don't expect our children to be exposed to that garbage at the nation's preeminent conservative gathering.
I was in the back of the ballroom and did not see any children in the audience during Coulter's speech. But what if there had been?
Would you want your children hearing the word "faggot" spoken in such a casual and senseless manner? Would you like your first-grader or three-year-old running around the halls of CPAC singing "faggot, faggot, faggot?" Not me. Not anymore than I'd like my toddler singing "gook, gook, gook" or "sambo, sambo, sambo"--favored epithets hurled at conservative minorities by leftist haters groping around in their empty intellectual quivers. There were hundreds of young conservative college students in the ballroom. Would you be proud of your college-age daughter spewing such epithets in her campus debates with leftists?
With a single word, Coulter sullied the hard work of hundreds of CPAC participants and exhibitors and tarred the collective reputation of thousands of CPAC attendees. At a reception for college students held by the Young America's Foundation, I lambasted the substitution of stupid slurs for persuasion-- be it "faggot" from a conservative or "gook" from a liberal--and urged the young people there to conduct themselves at all times with dignity in their ideological battles on and off campus.
I made something else explicitly clear: Not all of us treat the communication of conservative ideals and ideas as 24/7 performance art. You can and should use humor to convey your message. You can enlighten and entertain--without becoming a tired old schtick. You can joke without becoming the joke.

Offer to go into rehab.
Your constant personal attacks aren't doing much for your future credibility. (Just thought you should know)
you're the one who isn't getting it.
I am not a Coulter stalker, nor a Coulter hater...but I see that in your la-la land anyone who would dare criticize her must deserve that label?
I have not based my opinion on one instance, but on her tendency in the last couple of years to go over the top and exhibit a level of nastiness I don't care for.
That's it...no stalking or anything extreme like that.
Like I said before - I WANT to like Ann, but she makes it difficult.
It is simply my opinion and poor you are all in a tizzy because you don't agree.
I made a pledge in a post to another Ann fanatic that I will refrain from further injuring your sensibilities by suggesting Coulter is less than perfect.
I will do this despite the level of nastiness she freely shows to others.
No but I have used a few Pollack radar detectors. (following a speeding car).
My favorite was the Pollack Mine Detector. (plug ears and tap ground w/foot.)
Pray for W and Our Troops
I agree with you. The outrage expressed here over Ann's remarks underscores just how successsful the homos have been in getting protected minority status for their behavior, even among conservatives.
Hey Spam, you want to throw out Troll accusations at people who don't agree with you? Guess what, you are acting life a leftist who cannot engage in any real debate so you shout Troll life leftists shout, "Hate Speech" when someone offers criticism of liberal think.
Go waste someone else's time.
Thanks for the ping! :)
"Yep, the nasties are out in force this Sunday morning."
Forgive us for talking back. We should just sit back and watch your 24/7 jihad in silence.
Hey, maybe you should go off and post another three or four more threads on this subject.
Maybe we'll be so busy on this thread you can (for the twentieth time) pronounce Coulter ex-communicated without any back talk.
You never have explained why all of this is so important to you? Is it because it is important to Michelle Malkin? Or do you have a personal stake in faggotry?
Don't worry, Mr. Olympian, Ann Coulter doesn't hate homosexuals. She was probably the only pundit (conservative or otherwise) to defend Jeff Gannon.
Meanwhile, at MM's board, they were probably calling him a faggot.

Pityfully it isn't..
I am not outraged over the use of the term but in the setting it was used. Republican POTUS candidates are giving speeches with heavy press presence and here's Ann spouting off again. How does that help the party? The 30 and 40 something adolescents who titter over anything Ann says will validate her behavior but I don't see how it helps anyone but the democrats.
"I am not a Coulter stalker, nor a Coulter hater...but I see that in your la-la land anyone who would dare criticize her must deserve that label?"
You should get in touch with JimRob or the mods immediately, because someone has been posting on this thread using your ID.
That's what ther defenders of Ann Coulter's comment refuse to acknowledge. She did her bomb throwing act at CPAC on the same day and from the same stage all the '08 candidates were speaking. It wasn't on talk radio, one of her book signings, etc.
MM has her own career and she does her own thing. She doesn't need to keep reaching for the next piece of outrage to keep herself current or hip. She's also got a life beyond blogging, Fox and books.
You are also adding your own spin to what YOU think she means. Fine, that's your perogative but just admit that you are intepreting what she said.
And please spare me the sad laments that FR has gone PC. It has its own version with respect to use of certain words, terms or points of view.
I've read every thread on this subject. Yours is the most relevant observation.
As for MM, her comments from Friday on this subject, the *crickets chirping* statement should have sufficed. No need to elaborate.
And then there is AC herself. Didn't like this comment? Do the math. AC is right far more than she is wrong. But Woo Boy, when she is wrong, it is a bonfire!
I'm wondering what in the Sam Hill is going on here.
I tend to agree with you, but to show that I'm a gentleman and won't call Edwards a faggot (Ann Coulter didn't either), I'm going to paste a picture of Michelle Malkin up on the board, even if I don't agree with her in this case.
"MM has her own career and she does her own thing. She doesn't need to keep reaching for the next piece of outrage to keep herself current or hip."
Somebody should tell her that.
