Reading a few posts on Free Republic can lead one to that impression quite easily.

Some people rejoice in being eco unfriendly to show how "conservative" they are.

I totally agree with you it is ridiculous as most of them would aspire to being good Christian members of the community and as such should protect and look after God's creation. Plus of course save some money into the bargain.

I do not go along with the over hype re climate change etc but I do have energy efficient light bulbs and turn appliances off rather than having them on standby. Commonsense as far as I am concerned.

Also I love re-cyling in my own way using things for different purposes than they originally were intended - one can save a great deal of money this way. Take the handles off a plastic bucket make a few holes in and you have plant pot buy a plant pot and pay twice as much.

You have hit the nail on the head why Conservatives are the true reasonable ecologists. Conservatives combine cost saving, and ecology saving, and always have. You are English Frugal, and could teach the overspending, slobs in the radical environmental movement a few things. Look at anyplace they gather, there is waste and debris they leave for someone else to clean up. I am Irish and English frugal, and I recycle like you do, it is cost effective, and less mess to clean up.

I haven't seen any of those posts and I have no idea what you mean by eco unfriendly.

So do I and so do the vast majority of people. The idea that there is some significant group of ultra right wing conservative Reps that are against conserving energy and for pollution just doesn't hold water. What we are against is government mandating how we live. The marketplace has and will do a far better job of changing our energy consumption habits. As energy costs increase, people will take measures to reduce their costs and products that do that will be purchased. Those that prefer an SUV or gas guzzling cars will buy them and pay the additional costs. If they can afford a second home or a private jet, so be it.

I guess Dems like Al Gore are "eco friendly" based on what they say or presumably would post on this site, but what they really do in their personal lives is not germane--just what they say. Gore and his ilk would rather buy energy indulgences than make any sacrifices in their personal lives. Painting Conservatives as "eco unfriendly" is just part of the Dem campaign to create the stereotype of the Conservatives as guntoting, bible thumping, racist, anti-gay bigots who want cut down the forests and build refineries in everyone's backyard.

Amen, snugs. I try to waste not, want not! Guess some think there's something wrong with caring for this great world we inhabit.
