Did I mention that I'm related to Hitler? Maybe I am.
The odds are not great. But my grandmother Frances was born in Austria, or at least in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, as was the 20th century's marquee madman. Practically neighbors. ...
True, there probably was not much mixing between the Jews and the gentiles of the time. But people are people, and as you go back through the generations, who knows what kind of sub rosa town/shtetl canoodling was going on riverside by the communal laundry rocks? Perhaps we share a common ancestor.
And if my bloodline and Hitler's merged at some point in the lost Austrian past, what would that mean today?
Why absolutely nothing, of course. Which is also what it means if -- a big if -- Barack Obama's great-great-great-great-great grandmother owned slaves, as the Baltimore Sun thought fit to research and report last week.
I don't see why this sort of thing is considered news. If you go back far enough, we're not only all related to one another, but related to voles as well. It isn't as if there's a risk of Obama endorsing slavery, or that we lack actual issues to discuss. There's a war on, people.

of course mitt romney's religion is still on the table, once again proving the double standard used to judge liberals and conservatives by the drive by media.
This is truly a non-story for Obama. I don't care if his great grammy owned slaves any more than I feel I owe him reparations if his great grammy was a slave. Not at all, not one bit, don't care.
But it's hilarious to watch the Hillary Clinton "Politics of Personal Destruction Commandos" launch dud after dud.
I'm delighted to see that they are so incompetent and toothless after all.
It is a non-story, but not for the lefties who love throwing down that "slave owner" accusation. Liberal Sun-Times columnist Mary Mitchell and Mark Brown are also addressing this issue today. I may post them a little later on.
Amen.
What's funny about this too is that the Baltimore Sun makes the WaPo and NYT look not only balanced, but somewhat conservative. We used to subscribe for the Sunday coupons, but couldn't even stomach putting the rest of the papers, sans sports, in our trash.
Which member of Hilary's camp fed the story to them?
Everyone, somewhere in their ancestery, has relatives who owned slaves. So what?

Sorry, don't get me wrong, I was glad for the post.
What isn't entertaining about the thought of all these libs getting their panties twisted over this? HILARIOUS!!!
Not for us but, for the liberals, it kind of makes a mess out of the their reparations panderings.
But will the media admit that polygamy by Mitt Romney's great, great, great grandfather is a non-issue?
Here's the Mary Mitchell column >>> http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1794935/posts
funny how fast the Sharpton story went away when this came out, whats good for the goose is good for the gander.
Open your eyes, pal. It's considered news because Mrs. Clinton wanted it to be news.
Especially given that Hitler's paternity is as shaky as Bill Clinton's.
Hilter's mother was a maid at the home of wealthy Jews (the Schickelgrubers) when she became pregnant with young Dolf. She never named the father and he assumed his step father's last name, which he did so much to burnish.
So the chances that Dolf is Neil's distant cousin is better than he imagines.
I accept Neil's major thesis:
[I]f [his] bloodline and Hitler's merged at some point in the lost Austrian past, what would that mean today?
Absolutely nothing. As Henry Ford said, "History is Bunk", in America we need to forget ancestral animosities and treat people as individuals rather than the embodiment of racial and ethnic stereotypes.
Of course, the astonishing moral prestidigitation of the Left never ceases to amaze, but truth demands agreement with Steinburg. It may be amusing that Obama's ancestors were slave owners and that his African ancestors had nothing, that we know of, to do with slavery, but, aside from that, it doesn't matter. If we could but know the truth, we are all descendants of slaves and slave owners, and I for one accept no responsibility for the moral transgressions or credit for the benevolences of my ancestors--or anyone else. I answer only for myself. So can Obama.
As the descendant of abolitionists, I cannot get myself to vote for the descendant of slave-owners.
Correct - see response 10.
