He has a well-earned reputation for out-organizing and our-executing the competition.
So he wins CPAC polling...
Funny how life works that way.

I don't know that it matters, but the majority of voters were male, students, age 18-25.
You reckon those older 'true conservatives' stayed home again?

I don't know that it matters, but the majority of voters were male, students, age 18-25.I think that's a huge factor. For as long as I have been attending (I was 18 when I first attended in 1999), college students have been a large contingent at CPAC. The men do outnumber the women.

Is that the standard demographic representation for this conference?
I'm just wondering. The CPAC link said there was a 36 % increase in attendance from last time.

After seeing all the speeches LIVE yesterday I would have ranked the top three candidates in this order.
Duncan Hunter by a country mile (Reaganesque)
Mike Huckabee
TIE - Mitt Romney & Rudy Giuliani
If Newt was in the race he'd would be second. I haven't seen his speech from today.

There were 1705 votes in the straw poll.. How many were registered at the conference and were in attendance at some point during the time frame, Thrusday morn till Friday afternoon when the ballots could be turned in?. Depending upon the registered attendance a lot may not have even bothered to vote.
In any case it shows how on the ground organization can turn the tide regardless of the internet hype.

Don't know about attendance but the poll results indicates that the 1705 votes is a 36% increase over the 2006 straw poll votes....... To vote you had to be registered as an attendee.

A lot of College Republicans attend -- OU usually send 12-15 if that is any indication.

Whoever pays to vote in the CPAC straw poll gets to vote. So whoever brings in the most attendees normally wins....I think they can only vote once though....
Please feel free to make any corrections to this post..specifics..etc...

One result I find especially interesting from the CPAC Straw Poll is the result for the rankings when the specific issue is national security. Romney ranked higher than McCain. Mitt's
get-tough policy on the Jihadists, notably Iran, is beginning to get traction among conservatives.
From the following list who would be your FIRST choice to be Republican Nominee for President in 2008?
AMONG SECURE AND GUARANTEE SAFETY
Romney 21%
Giuliani 25%
Brownback 11%
Gingrich 9%
McCain 18%

I can tell you there was more than 1705 at that conference. I attended on Thursday and it was wall-to-wall people.

Giuliani got crushed among the 30% of CPAC attendees who say that their most important goal is "to promote traditional family values by protecting traditional marriage and protecting the life of the unborn."
Brownback 29%
Romney 22%
Gingrich 13%
McCain 8%
Giuliani 8%

I understand that and think it may approach 5,000 or maybe a good bit more. But howevere many it was a lot chose not to vote thus promoting their candidate.

There were two polls: 1. CPAC. 2. The conservative Citizens Unitedhave thrown their support behind non-candidate Newt Gingrich.

There were more attendees than those who voted. But it's good to see that the social conservatives at CPAC are well-informed about Guiliani.
