lol I understand it but good luck trying to get them too
republicans do utilize this when it matters on election day....to waste money like this on votes that don't count is not good management at all...raising money is hard enough to do and when donors see money being spent like this they won't give anymore....
Yes, it appears that the grown-ups attending CPAC realize they have no dog in the fight in the coming '08 election as there is no credible conservative candidate announced to date.
great explanation:)
I like hunter personally (he's my local congresscritter), but i didnt think his speech at cpac was very good at all. His announcmenet one in south carolina was very good, but he seemed kind of tired and out of it at cpac.
I am friendly to him but that is what I have said all along.
Romney did well as did Giuliani and Newt. But the seriousness of the poll was threatened by the revelation that Gary Bauer go over 30 in the last one. So there must be a large proportion which is kookoo.
I am neither convinced Newt will take the plunge nor that he would have enough time to raise 100 million to do any good.
That was my original estimate but this was a horrible showing.
Good post. So true! :)
Romney didn't pay anyone. This is just demonstrably false. Students from other areas wanted to go to support Romney, but couldn't find transportation to the event. The Romney arranged for transportation and paid some of entry fees. Nothing else. These people came because they were huge Romney supporters.
Sloppy, disorganized, and careless candidates do what Giuliani did. Nothing. They coast in on whatever appeal they already have and expect the media to do the heavy lifting for them.
No, the real lesson is that Romney spent hundreds of thousands of dollars and had people everywhere at CPAC, and he just barely beat Giuliani, who had no presence there whatsoever -- not even a single sticker, sign, or volunteer.
The big winner at CPAC was Giuliani. And thus I fear for the future of conservatism.
Yep, paying fro transportation for students who have noe is not cheap. BTW, I had heard the students paid their own entry fees.n
unless oen is trygin to get their rather unknown name out there, before it counts....
62% of those taking the poll are between ages 18 and 25.
This means nothing.
Hunter = Keyes = FR feeding frenzy = loser
He is smart and most importantly: he is one hell of an organizational guy.
He will put together an unstoppable machine.
To my chagrin, I don't Rudy will withstand the scrutiny, but Romney will take no prisoners.
Either way, it will be fun watching the Hunter/Keyes FR crowd melt down again.
Romney is a flip flopper, just like Kerry. I don't trust him. He will say whatever is needed to be said at the time it needs to be said. At least with Giuliani you know what you're getting. I somehow find that comforting. I may not agree with him on most issues but I know I'm not getting the bait-and-switch. As long as his Number One issue is national security AND he pledges to appoint judges who follow what the Constitution says instead of what it "ought to say" then I can see myself voting for him, even though ideologically I am in Duncan Hunter's camp. And no, I am not a RINO or a libertarian.
I'm starting to agree with this. McCain is way too tied to the Iraq war to get much support, and Rudy will NEVER get primary votes from social conservatives. Romney said what he had to say to get the most liberal state in the country to vote for him as governor. His handlers in Salt Lake City will keep his feet to the fire if he tries that crap on a national level.
Unless Gingrich runs, I cannot see any other conservative candidate getting the ink and the bucks to do better than fourth place in the early primaries and caucuses.
I had the same thought. In fact, here's what I posted on another thread:
I can understand Rudy's strong showing among Republicans in general. But I am puzzled that he has such strong support here at FR, a conservative forum.
If I thought that he was the ONLY candidate that could take a strong defense stand (terrorism, etc.), then I could vote for him. But you would first have to convince me that Romney and Hunter would be weak on defense.
But assuming they take a tough stance, then I will be voting for one of them. I am a conservative, and so are they. Rudy is not a conservative on gun control, abortion, or the issue of special rights for gays. But yes, he is a nice, likable, charismatic guy. That's not enough to get my vote.
