It doesn't happen in elections. But it's a common occurrence in nominating conventions.
I agree completely with TAdams. Nice work!
Really, you are right. How stupid to try to appeal to the country's youth and bring in more young people to the Republican party and expose them to conservative values. What was he thinking?
Thanks for the ping.
Yes, good work UP! Your posts are always positive, informative and optimistic. I hope more wise and wonderful conservatives will join us.
I have seen it at County and State Conventions.
But he isn't new. He's been in Washington for 27 freaking years. Wake up and smell the coffee.
Another FR quixotic effort at supporting the unelectable.
Look, I'm extremely glad that the young folks were there and that they are taking an interest in conservative politics, but the poll was clearly an unbalanced representative sample of the voting public because of their overwhelming participation in the poll.
I wonder if the 2nd-choice numbers are misleading. People who strongly support a candidate might be voting for the weakest candidate 2nd, rather than the 2nd-most-popular, in order to drive down the 1st-2nd numbers of their opposition.
I think that could have pushed Romney's numbers down, and Brownback's numbers up.
I used to think Gulliani was getting a lot of votes from conservatives who weren't ready to commit to the front-tier candidates because they wanted someone else to get into the race.
Now I think a lot of them are voting for Gingrich because he isn't in the race so he's a better placeholder.
Very nice home page. Thanks!
What leadership credentials does Hunter have? Before the current presidential cycle, what issue was he out in front on? What big event had him being called first to speak out? If he's a good enough leader to be President, why didn't his name come up for any of the top GOP house leadership positions, even on FR?
The man's awful old to just be deciding he can be a leader. What has he done before this to show his leadership?
That is the question I think Hunter supporters must answer before he is taken seriously. He's got the right opinions on the issues, but there are millions of people who have the right opinions, none of which are qualified to be president because the president has to be able to run the largest organization in the world, and control the largest and best armed forces in the world.
If Hunter had run a private business, or been a mayor or governor, or been on the board of directors of some major organizations, that would be helpful to him now. If he had been a police chief, or a prosecuter who had to run the justice system.
But he's been a career politician, in the House, and seemed up until now to be content to be a follower.
Ya think? Just like the ones here on FR? Anyway, I am happy when any conservatives reach out to the young people, minorities etc... The more conservatives the merrier in my book. Yet, I don't trust any polls personally.
I don't either, that's why I always look at the infor and numbers behind the polls. You can usually see why they came up with the particular results by seeing when, who and where they polled.
Here you have many of the conservatives that will be the 'leaders' in 2008--in raising contributions, volunteer time, getting out the vote, etc--and Guiliani did even WORSE there than on FR!!
I was thinking that when I posted back at you. We have actually been there and done that. I was trying to explain straw polls the other night and think it went right over a bunch of heads. Don't think they ever understood the word fundraiser and candidates pay for ballot! :)
Yes. Rudy 34%. Conservatives 66%, split amongst several much more conservative candidates than Rudy.
Right now, Hunter came in only barely above the libertarian anti-war Ron Paul, and the known-to-nobody Jim Gilmore.
Hunter's got work to do.
Romney and McCain have been organizing their campaigns for awhile now. Rudy is just really starting to his organized. I'm sure it will be organized by the summer.
What I find amazing in these numbers is that Rudy wasn't scheduled to attend CPAC until the middle of the week while some candidates had been planning to get their people there for weeks and paid for their way.
