Theres some big fallout from the meeting in Washington of the Conservative Political Action Conference, three days of conferencing, caucusing, presidential addressing and book-hawking. These conferences have historically been known for displaying what its own organizers would describe as over-the-top behavior, and one of the regular speakers Ann Coulter offered an example of it when she used an anti-gay epithet on Friday to describe John Edwards, the former senator from North Carolina and Democratic presidential contender. I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word faggot, so I so kind of an impasse, cant really talk about Edwards, she said, speaking to an overflow room of activists. That rehab remark was apparently a reference to Isaiah Washington, one of the stars on Greys Anatomy, a television series, who called a co-star T.R. Knight anti-gay names and went to rehabilitation over it. Mr. Edwardss campaign quickly responded. John was singled out for a personal attack because the Republican establishment knows he poses the greatest threat to their power, said his campaign manager, David Bonior. Since they have nothing real to use against him, Coulters resorting to the classic right-wing strategy of riling up hate to smear a progressive champion.
Howard Dean, the Democratic National Committee chairman, said: There is no place in political discourse for this kind of hate-filled and bigoted comments. While Democrats and Republicans may disagree on the issues, we should all be able to agree that this kind of vile rhetoric is out of bounds.

Well SOMETHING has to distract people from Al Gore's hypocrisy.
A man who's been praised for YEARS for "speaking truth to power" about Global Warming stars in a movie that wins the Oscar for Best Documentary, a movie which makes him even more of a superstar in the Global Warming debate, is revealed to be a POLLUTER, spoiling Gaia with 20X the energy use of those stupid Americans he's talking down to?
Which has caused more harm? I'm asking you, liberals--a woman making a joke, or a rich son of privilege and oil money using 20x the resources he would be allotted in your socialist paradise?
No, ALgore is still gonna go down in flames. Ann had a fantastic article on the GW nonsense the other day. Now thousands more people will read it.
I didn't think it was possible for them to make themselves look like bigger idiots than they already are... but guess I was wrong...
The Breck Girl's manager is delusional.
Not so much anti-gay as anti-Edwards, in my opinion. Coulter's remark was politically very stupid, but hardly worth much conversation.
Right now I'm thinking of that video clip from a few years back in which Edwards is getting his hair done. He teases it, tugs at it, sighs, and parts it oh-so-precisely until it's just darling. Someone needs to post the whole winsome little frolic on YouTube.
Love ya.
"Anti-gay remark?"
Is the times saying that she said that homosexuals are bad? Or mean? Or liars? Because I have yet to find that in the transcript.
Or is the times saying that if she called Edwards a homosexual, that it's an insult to homosexuals?
Mark
Well, and as even Adam Nagourney admits, she didn't call him a faggot. Well, not quite, anyway.
Or Edwards prancing about the country with his hairdresser talking about the "two Americas", as he builds his 30,000 sq ft estate.
There actually are worse things than being a faggot; being a demokkkrat for instance....
I don't think Howie and Edwards combined can win a purse fight with Annie.
I wonder if there is any real fallout. I was watching CNN's coverage of CPAC's convention and there was no mention of Coulter's comments at all. Neither Bill O'Reilly or Hannity & Colmes last night said anything about it. I watched most of their shows last night so maybe I missed it if they said anything. As someone once said liberals hate Ann Coulter because she plays by their rules.
What a bunch of fafafines...
Coulter's remark appears to be a humorous jab at the Politically Correct mindset that forces people into rehabilitation for expressing opinions that run counter to the liberal elite's definition of acceptable.
Oh yeah, and poking fun at John Edwards, who is fussier about his looks than most women, is fair game.
But, perhaps her use of "faggot" was ill chosen when there are better words for describing that man, such as "weak", "ineffective", and "effeminate".
