On Ann Coulter - Idiotic. Disgusting. Stupid. Moronic. (conservatives respond)

Idiotic. Disgusting. Stupid. Moronic.

I guess you could say that Ann loves to shock us, but at this point, who’s shocked? She obviously can’t behave well enough to attend a respectable political gathering. It’s not a lack of intelligence. It’s an indifference to self-control and a preening sort of narcissism that compels her to need the spotlight, even if it’s unflattering.

(For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, here’s audio of her calling John Edwards a “faggot” at CPAC today.)

---

Michelle Malkin -

***4:15pm update***

Ann Coulter just finished her riff on Al Gore, tossed out some cute jokes ("You can understand why Hollywood is concerned about global warming. You know what heat does to plastic."), and ended with a cheap one-liner about John Edwards being a "faggot." (Paraphrasing) She said she would refrain from commenting on Edwards because "if you say faggot, you have to go to rehab."

A smattering of laughter.

Not from this corner.

Crickets chirping.

---

Bryan Preston of 'Hot Air' -

Ann Coulter is speaking at CPAC as I write. As is typical, she gave a brief speech full of her usual witticisms, including a few brilliant attacks on Al Gore’s green hypocrisy. All was good. Untill the last few seconds, when she launched into a joke about John Edwards.

Here’s what she said.

“I’d say something about John Edwards, but if you say ‘faggot’ you have to go to rehab.”

I’m no fan of John Edwards, but that’s just a stupid joke. It’s over the line. The laughter it generated across the room was more than a little annoying.

Last year it was “raghead.” This year it’s calling John Edwards a “faggot.” Two years in a row, Coulter has finished up an otherwise sharp CPAC routine with an obnoxious slur that liberals will fling at conservatives for years to come.

Thanks, Ann.

My comments... what should have been a day to celebrate a Reaganesque speech by Duncan Hunter, and good speeches by Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee was overshadowed by an unhinged comment by Ann Coulter. She is an absolute idiot for saying something like this at CPAC.

"What the members of "The Coult" fail to realize is that, like Michael Moore, any accomplishments she may make for her side are erased by motivating the other side. They forget that all the attacks on Bush were what helped him to get reelected in '04. F-9/11 didn't accomplish anything."

I have literally met dozens of people (often young women) who were brought into the conservative movement by Ann Coulter.

What have you ever done for the cause, Soccermom?

It's a rhetorical question because I am sure you have done nothing but sit on your fat -- couch and feel superior to those who are actually out there in the arena.

Until the Conservative Movement gets over this petulant childish need to spend all their time sniping their OWN side
You mean like what's happening on this very thread? FReepers sniping at FReepers who dare to have a different opinion?

You still do not understand. Her lame assinine comment was made at a yearly national gathering of conservatives and on the same day where all the 2008 GOP Presidential candidates were speaking (except McCain). Does that register in your mind???

*************

I do believe the lady was invited, presumably by those who are familiar with her work. You're not suggesting that they were unprepared for what she said, are you? Because if they were, they're too stupid to be in the Republican Party.

And sadly, in the real world, kindness and common decency in politics will relegate you to a footnote in history, if you're lucky, and to the dustbin --- if you're not.

You write a thoughtful post. Thanks. I think Reagan set a good example - you can deal with political opponents without compromising your principles. When he said to Mondale - "I won't make a big deal of your youth and inexperience" he really was funny (I now I didn't get the quote exactly right) - but it didn't *make fun* of Mondale - and the debate was essentially over at that point. When President Bush labeled Kerry as a flip flopper - he didn't cross the line - like both Kerry and Edwards did.

I do understand and agree that in politics you need to respond and respond quickly - and that politics ain't bean bag - but I think that true wit beats ridicule.

I've been saying this for a long time. She's our version of Michael Moore, and should be treated accordingly. We then should give Ann Coulter a sit in the honor booth next to the President at the next Republican Convention, like democrats gave it to Michael Moore during theirs. Right? Your surrenderist attitude is the perfect example of what's wrong with the republican party this days. Instead to standing up to liberal demands, you caving in to them.

I bet the CPAC folks do not make the same mistake for a third time.

I feel so horrified by her comments that I have taken off my cowboy boots, faded blue button-ups and set my hat down.

My bride found me some softer things to wear, that enhance the color of my eyes and soften the skin tone of my otherwise weathered face.

The crow's-feet, that I like to call laugh lines, were the real challenge but, my Bride had some girl cream stuff to put on them. The cream softened their look and it smells like a flower. My voice is deep, but if I speak very softly and just breath the words out. I think my voice will now be found by many to be very pleasant.

I am now headed out to local public unisex restrooms where I will hang out all day. I plan to be a greeter for the entire day, in hopes of paying the penance for what this vile woman had said. s/

Ann and her followers are simply the conservative equivalent of Michael Moore's followers on the left, they're a personality cult that does not care what their hero says or does about people as long as they get their "cause" across to the public. The end justifies the means.

Before this thread, I would have said you're delusional but I'm a believer now, sadly so I must add.

We'll see how Romney handles it in April at the first of a plethora of debates. She endorsed him.

I'll bookmark this thread. And if you are still around a year from now (which I doubt), I will rub your nose in it.

It shows your utter ignorance of the people at CPAC, and the conservative audience it draws.

I think she is more the equivalent of Molly Ivins or Maureen Dowd. Do you think Dems get into such a fit of self flagellation over their hate speech as I'm seeing here? Ann Coulter is a spokesperson for Ann Coulter. She does not represent the GOP or any candidate, and anyone can choose to listen or not. Why all the uproar?

I guess I'm an uncouth Republican, because I thought it was funny. Republicans act like there are Queensbury rules for a street fight. Democrats seem to have no such inhibitions, and as a result, they win a lot more than their bankrupt policies justify.

I thought it was funny also, and you hit the nail on the head about republicans and queensbury rules for a street fight.

We agree. People who cry about loss of "free speech" simply because people disagree with the content of that free speech need help. Thanks for point that out.

We agree!
