I guess you could say that Ann loves to shock us, but at this point, who’s shocked? She obviously can’t behave well enough to attend a respectable political gathering. It’s not a lack of intelligence. It’s an indifference to self-control and a preening sort of narcissism that compels her to need the spotlight, even if it’s unflattering.
(For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, here’s audio of her calling John Edwards a “faggot” at CPAC today.)

Ann Coulter just finished her riff on Al Gore, tossed out some cute jokes ("You can understand why Hollywood is concerned about global warming. You know what heat does to plastic."), and ended with a cheap one-liner about John Edwards being a "faggot." (Paraphrasing) She said she would refrain from commenting on Edwards because "if you say faggot, you have to go to rehab."
A smattering of laughter.
Not from this corner.
Crickets chirping.

Ann Coulter is speaking at CPAC as I write. As is typical, she gave a brief speech full of her usual witticisms, including a few brilliant attacks on Al Gore’s green hypocrisy. All was good. Untill the last few seconds, when she launched into a joke about John Edwards.
Here’s what she said.
“I’d say something about John Edwards, but if you say ‘faggot’ you have to go to rehab.”
I’m no fan of John Edwards, but that’s just a stupid joke. It’s over the line. The laughter it generated across the room was more than a little annoying.
Last year it was “raghead.” This year it’s calling John Edwards a “faggot.” Two years in a row, Coulter has finished up an otherwise sharp CPAC routine with an obnoxious slur that liberals will fling at conservatives for years to come.

My comments... what should have been a day to celebrate a Reaganesque speech by Duncan Hunter, and good speeches by Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee was overshadowed by an unhinged comment by Ann Coulter. She is an absolute idiot for saying something like this at CPAC.

This kind of trash talking does nothing to further the Conservative cause. Instead of making Edwards look bad, it makes the name caller look terrible.
Why not concentrate on Edwards' class warfare , "two Americas" hateful message?
Or his despicable history as a "slip and fall" lawyer that made him a multi millionaire, while clients got hardly anything?
Ot his "green" ecology message, given from his 50,000 sq foot McMansion that uses 20 times the energy of everyday Americans?
Just don't yell "fire" in a crowded theater.

Because it was a JOKE about being put into rehab for using the word "faggot" as has been in the news.

But thanks for being the latest in a long line of posters to prove my point about how this joke was too difficult for stupid people to figure out.

Ann is brilliant, and I normally love reading her columns. She crossed the line this time--that was totally uncalled for and hateful.

It was stupid for being as poorly timed as possible. To do this at CPAC is just about unforgiveable. If she said this on a talk show or somewhere else it wouldn't even matter to me all that much. At CPAC with all of our '08 candidates speaking from the same stage on the same day. Yes, that matters to me! And she is a flaming idiot for what she did.
John Edwards = Breck Girl
If you can drag yourself away from "American Idol" long enough to look at the video, you might realize that it was a joke and not a hate attack on Edwards.
But again, thanks for proving my point throughout this thread.
