Dispirited Conservatives Haunted by Unthinkable -a Clinton Victory
Times Online ^ | 3/2/2007 | TIM REID

Thousands of US conservatives gathered in Washington yesterday feeling betrayed by President Bush, dispirited by Republican presidential candidates and depressed by the once unthinkable: their failure to demonise Hillary Clinton. The thought of a female President Clinton once seemed a horrifying prospect, guaranteed to galvanise the Right just as her husband did in the 1990s.

But with morale among conservatives at its lowest ebb for over a decade, and the movement more fractured than at any point since the Cold War, the grassroots uprising against Mrs Clinton has so far failed to materialise. Many are now realising that the determination with which she has embarked on her quest for the Democratic nomination makes defeating her a formidable challenge.

“She’s moderated her image. She’s tougher on the War on Terror and she has not aligned herself with the antiwar Left. Some conservatives think she’s not all bad,” said Christopher Ruddy, who runs NewsMax, America’s biggest conservative online magazine.

I like Rummy too but I think he might be a little old...
he's gonna be 74 next year.

Personally, I kind of like a Cheney/Steele ticket.

There sure are plenty who talk about staying home if they don't like the (R) candidate, and that's a vote for Hillary, if she's the (D) nominee.

The primaries are being pushed up to Feb. which means that in 11 months we will know who the candidates are.

if the choice were hillary or ruddy, which would you chose?

Ruddy in a nano second. Keep in mind much of the power of the President is who he/she surrounds themselves with. Their cabinet and lesser appointed offices. Now who would you pick?

Good positive thinking there Ken. We've had a left press for the past 30 years and I do recall a few Republican Presidents. A Republican will win. NOT A SOCIAL CONSERVATIVE, but a Republican will win.

Bill clinton was the best friend republicans had since RR.
He took office with 257 d house members, 57 d senators and 30 govs.
2 years later he lost 52 house seats, 9 senate seats and ten govs-
Hillary will be way worse(better) and my hunch is democrats will not survive hillary, but we will.

This is amazing. Every single poll to date shows Billary getting her fat ass kicked in a matchup with Giulianni. If there were even ONE poll in the bit*hs favor it would be front page, right side, above the fold.

They wouldn't pull 25% of the vote.

Apparently not as horrifying as a President Giuliani, to many on this board ...

This is a perfect example of why I treat Newsmax and the Onion with equal respect.

Hillary's all things to all people . . tough on the War on Terror while yet being not TOO tough on the War on Terror, she has not aligned herself with the antiwar Left while having yet aligned herself with the antiwar Left, she IS today what the polls say it's good to be, and that changes with the wind of the next poll - and then comes her loud, convoluted pronouncement explaining that if NOW was THEN, she wouldn't do THEN what she would do NOW. . or perhaps she would do THEN what she wouldn't do NOW. . and, furthermore, her head's in a blender and she just can't recall. Dysfunctional. Unstable. Forgetful.

I do not beleive that such a ticket could succeed but know one can be sure what the future holds. A WMD could go off in DC and the president, whom ever that might be after the dust clears would nessesarily have to declare Marshal Law, would an election even be possible in such a time.

I beleive tough times are in store for us, who ever is our leader and we had better be prepared for what awaites us.

The one thing i am sure of is the Americn spirit and that we will prevail if we are on the side of truth and freedom.

You read stories like this, and you begin to understand how a member of a remote tribe feels after some anthropologist like Margaret Mead goes home and publishes all kinds of made up humbug about you.
