Ann Coulter Slams Edwards With Anti-Gay Slur
Hotline ^ | 3/2/07

"I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word ‘faggot,’ so I — so kind of an impasse, can’t really talk about Edwards," Ann Coulter said today at CPAC. Her audience seemed to to evince both shock and delight.

The Human Rights Campaign's Joe Solomnese was not happy.

“To interject this word into American political discourse is a vile and disgusting way to sink the debate to a new, all-time low. Make no doubt about it, these remarks go directly against what our Founding Fathers intended and have no place on the schoolyard, much less our country’s political arena.”

Next, there'll be calls for Republican candidates to disassociate themselves from Coulter's remarks. Unfairly, ex-MA Gov. Mitt Romney faces the biggest burden: he spoke right before Coulter and praised her... not knowing what she planned to say.

I learned that wonderful descriptive term Poofter or poof, as in, "He seems a bit fey, must be a poof.", from the limies when I worked for an English Company.

She "needs" to be liked.

Needs to be 'controversial' = books bought = cash.

yep, remember the great old days, when, for that first deliriously happy campaign week, Kerry and Edwards just couldn't seem to keep their hands off each other? I cautioned people to not mention it too much, just enjoy it while it lasted.

..so you are saying bad behavior is OK if you point to other bad behavior?....I thought conservatives were above that kind of crap.... Most people won't get it....they only see the crude remark

The sheer cluelessness of some of you is BLINDING!

Oh, come off it...

Middle America has NO FREAKIN' IDEA that Edwards hired those bloggers.

Ann is stuck so inside the Beltway, she can't see out.

All people are going to hear is the "F" word...and you know what?? The MSM will be happy to make that catch.

You really don't understand politics and the American people.

Political bloggers are SOOOOOOO not registering....

No kidding. And don't you think it will BECOME known, when Ann Responds to all the nuts attacking her, but did NOT attack John Edwards? Or how about those who decided to excuse Tim Hardaway when he made HIS comments(where the rehab part came from for those of you still needed clues).

Ann has brought the issue front and center, and now we will get to sit back and watch the media do their attacks on her, and then Ann (and hopefully some of YOU when you wake up) can ask why there was none of this shock and anger at John Edwards for hiring people who said the same things and worse.

Thinking about it even further, I am SURE Ann was referring to that black actor I mentioned in my other reply to you, from the soap-opera Medical show, Grey's Anatomy, who called T.R. Knight a faggot during a taping of the show, then publicly when questioned with mikes in front of him, said he didn't call anyone a 'faggot', thereby calling him a faggot by indirection, and winding up in a remorseful rehab.

I wonder what conservatives Dick and Lynne Cheney think of the word "faggot" used as a jokey slur considering their daugher Mary's lifestyle. If Ann really wants to go for broke, maybe next year she can make a crude reference to women of the Sapphic persuasion in one of her laff riot (not) jokes.

"... thereby calling him a faggot by indirection ...."

Which is what Ann just did to John Edwards.

"Looks like Ann is getting desperate for attention."

I don't know why she should. She's always had my strict attention -- along with the attention of millions who read her column and view her many TV appearances. Her facts and logic are in perfect order, her wit is always sharp and she's the living antidote to the well-mannered, politically correct, country club "conservative" who meekly submits to beatings from the left.

...there was tons of shock and anger at Edwards not firing those bloggers....in fact, enough pressure for them to quit. I understand intellectually what you are saying but that is just it, most people WON'T make the connection and just see Ann as crude and tactless......I'm not bashing your opinion at all, but the only thing I agree with Bill O'Reilly on is that excusing bad behavior by pointing to other bad behavior is not an excuse....I actually believe Ann is super smart and quick on her feet but has poor judgment at times.....thus alot of one liners.....

why there was none of this shock and anger at John Edwards for hiring people who said the same things and worse

Because it was two little twinkie-girly potty-mouth bloggers...you twit!! Insignificant specks!!

Ann misread her audience...misread the Internet.

Hardaway, at least, is a relatively well-known figure who lost some serious endorsements in the aftermath.

Ann sucked the air out of CPAC for Hunter...and she wasted good-will on a third-rate candidate. For what??

Just to have folks twitter in the Beltway.

Ann Coulter is entertaining and not a wimp. Apparently the uttering of certain words causes some people to reach for smelling salts or go crying to their therapists. Maybe they should repeat to themselves "It's just a word. I will survive hearing it."

Don't discount the spectacle of Edwards having to defend himself now.

A girl just called a grown man a faggot, and the imp is going to take it apparently...

(What is he going do, cry?)

.....that is not the same people do when they call Bush a murderer or Hitler...after all, they are just words too.. but most FReepers get very perturbed when that happens.. I'm not a hypocrite...either it is bad taste for both parties or fair game....can't be both....double standard
