McCain Wins SC Straw Poll

1. Sen. John McCain was the surprise winner of last night's Spartanburg, SC straw poll, eclipsing ex-NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani for the lead today. Some McCain opponents grumbled that McCain suddenly "found" 50 votes, but we don't think Spartanburg GOP chair Rick Beltram -- not a particularly huge McCain fan -- would have certified the results if he'd been suspicious about fraud. The results:
McCain 164 Rudy 162 Hunter 158 Brownback 85 Romney 80 Huckabee 21
2. As we reported below, McCain picked up the support of noted GOP strategist Charlie Black. It's a major Beltway get.

Who down in that area can tell us what this all means? Probably not much of anything.

I don't either and I don't understand why he got so many votes. I can understand Duncan Hunter winning he was in Spartenburg and his group was camped out doing their job, but not McCain. Something is very weird here.

To: areafiftyone
This is bad.
Now, we are going to have to start having Jimmah 'I escaped the killer rabbit' Carter oversee GOP voting.

LOL. Yeah. Beats Rudy by 2, in South Carolina! Hunter placed well, so kudos to his people, but I don't understand this whole straw vote thing....the winner wins with 164 votes? Who did they survey? People in the Safeway parking lot?

They been cheatin', there is a conspiracy, I demand a recount. Rudy should have one this hands down. Something ain't right here, did all of the black folk get to vote, were the ballots confusing ? Many folks with Italian names who tried to vote were turned away from the polls. Whats this crap about closing early because of a snow storm?
There better be a hearing into this fiasco.

I dunno...I stayed up and watched the results. When I went to bed, Rudy was the winner, with Hunter 2nd, and McLame a distant 3rd.
Something stinks in Sparkle City.
