Blogosphere Is Quick to Criticize Ann Coulter (Use of a Certain 'F' Word at CPAC)
various | 3/2/2007 | n/a

Posted on 03/02/2007 3:22:58 PM PST by Pyro7480

Michelle Malkin writes:

Ann Coulter just finished her riff on Al Gore, tossed out some cute jokes ("You can understand why Hollywood is concerned about global warming. You know what heat does to plastic."), and ended with a cheap one-liner about John Edwards being a "faggot." (Paraphrasing) She said she would refrain from commenting on Edwards because "if you say faggot, you have to go to rehab."

A smattering of laughter.

Not from this corner.

Crickets chirping.

Flashback Last year's bomb about "ragheads."

Bryan at Malkin's Hot Air:

I’m no fan of John Edwards, but that’s just a stupid joke. It’s over the line. The laughter it generated across the room was more than a little annoying.

Last year it was “raghead.” This year it’s calling John Edwards a “faggot.” Two years in a row, Coulter has finished up an otherwise sharp CPAC routine with an obnoxious slur that liberals will fling at conservatives for years to come.

Thanks, Ann.

The Captain of Captain's Quarters opined

Yeah, that's just what CPAC needs -- an association with homophobia. Nice work, Ann.

At some point, Republicans will need to get over their issues with homosexuality. Regardless of whether one believes it to be a choice or a hardwired response, it has little impact on anyone but the gay or lesbian person. We can argue that homosexuality doesn't require legal protection, but not when we have our front-line activists referring to them as "faggots" or worse. That indicates a disturbing level of animosity rather than a true desire to allow people the same rights and protections regardless of their lifestyles.

Ann Coulter can be an entertaining and incisive wit. Unfortunately, she can also be a loose cannon, and CPAC might want to consider that the next time around.

Mary Katharine Ham of Townhall.com's one-liner

You shouldn't have to go to psych eval for using it, but it's a nasty word. Just don't.

Sean Hackbarth of The American Mind:

Ann Coulter almost made it through her CPAC speech without looking like a complete buffoon. She wasn’t funny, she rarely is, but she’s an attention whore. Near the end of her speech she said she wouldn’t talk about John Edwards because ” you have to go into rehab if you use the word ‘faggot.’” She’s now on non-speaking terms with any gay and lesbian friends.

We're better off without the being associated with the likes of her, Pat Buchanon, and David Duke.

Oh yeah, and your association with an assortment of fascists and neo-Marxists like Bush, McCain, and Giuliani serves you so much better.

Get over yourself.

but she definitely goes overboard with some of her comments.

She certainly does. And that's why I'm such a big fan of hers.

GO ANN GO!!

My only problem with Ann is that I can't make up my mind ..... would I rather see her as VP and Rush as President? Or her in the White House and Rush as VP?

Decisions decisions.....

Don't bother...

If tomorrow she said "I'm the daughter of Satan and Lily Tomlin", they'd still cheer.

Gee: 64 years old and never knew "faggot" was a profanity.

It wasn't spewing, and it wasn't profanity

She made her point about Edwards with very few words.

She intimated that Gore was gay a few months ago, and it was brought out in an interview with Chris Matthews on TV.

Conservatives are supposed to be the grown ups. Leave the profanity spewing for no reason to the lefties.

Sometimes I despair for civilized society.

Ann Coulter says lots of things I wish I'd thought of first. Short things, but...
Anyway, the trouble with Ann C., insofar as there's any trouble, is that a loose cannon is going to bust right out of the ship and sink in the briny deep, you don't know just when.
She says outrageous things. Fine, that's her shtick and it puts food on the table (?) But one day she will meet her macaca. The Dems are all waiting and hoping for the right spark to make a conflagration.
And here she's bringing "faggots."
Please be careful, Ms. Coulter. Be Ann, but be careful!

and Rush as President

How many Congressional seats did we lose because of Rush's comments about Michael J Fox?

Yeah, we need to strive to associate ourselves with sensitive males, in the Clinton mold. How about Rudy? He seems like a sensitive guy who would never hurt the feelings of gays (by, for instance, doing something awful like wearing clothes that were last year's fashion). Someone whose voice can quake, lips tremble and eyes tear up in public. That's who we Republicans need to associate ourselves with!

In several countries, you could be arrested for "hate speech" if you told that story!

Words have power ... words are power.

I remember back in the 60's (before acid ... after that, I woke up in 1981) ... and the one thing that I became aware of was the prolific use of the fire-truck word. (Damn! .. Back then I would have really spelt it out ... )

About 4 of us hip eyes were lounging on the Common, gettin' high and some real cute school girls came over to us ... I think there were 3 of 'm ... dresses, smelled nice, clean ... and they sarted conversation with us ... I remember only one question and the answer ..

"But ... what do you do all day" ?

I think it was Mikey that retorted ...

"We f#@%" !

They stayed a little while longer, but it was obvious they were torn between really digging our saying that and being embarassed/repulsed.

1967/68 had a way of doin' that to you.

Blacks had (and still have) MF.

Language is a tool for communication, and the one that uses it without fear is, IMO, someone very sure of and comfortable with themselves and it would probably be wise to both pay attention and be a little on guard.

I love Ann and any other user of words.

I don't know, but let me guess.

How about 0?

Did I get it right? Please tell me. Ohh, but I do love taking online quizzes!

If you say faggot you have to go to rehab. LOL It's true.

Exactly. The reaction to the statement validates the statement! Reality flexes in upon itself.

Conservative bloggers think piling on Ann will win brownie points with the libs. It won't. And yes, I do think homosexuals are abnormal. That's a moral judgment and I know liberals hate judgment.
