May he suffer the same fate as his hero, Mussolini...

Good satire. Nothing wrong with that. I wish both sides could laugh at well-crafted humor. At the end of the day, all the candidates are politicians and worthy of some degree of satirization as a result - as are their supporters and detractors.

There isn't a dime's worth of political difference, other than a political label, between Rooty and Ted Kennedy.

That is an astonishing statement. Their positions differ roughly 180 degrees on Iraq and the WOT (USA-PATRIOT, SWIFT, etc.); that difference right there is worth more than a dime, even if Rudy is far more liberal than I'd like.

More importantly, Rudy has better legs. :P

It wasn't me who didn't know not to answer for Jim. It wasn't me who thought there ought to be a rule for it. Maybe you aren't as clear about the difference between liberal and conservative as you think you are.

That's an absurd statement. Most Rudy backers on this site seem to acknowledge and disagree with some of his stances on some issues-- they merely are taking the view that the good he brings outweighs the bad.

Their stated "positions" are one thing, reality is another. Liberals always end up on the weak-kneed appeasement track eventually, no matter what they say. It starts with the kind of appointments they make. "Personnel IS policy."

The ability to laugh at oneself and not take oneself too seriesly is a priceless advantage for a politician. Reagan was good at that; so is Rudy. It's always a good idea for politicians to come off as human beings and not as stuffed shirts like Kerry or Hillary.

Has any Giuliani supporter addressed your concerns regarding his stance on 2nd Amendment rights, Gabz? Seems like I'm the only one left responding to you, since you pinpointed this major problem you have with Rudy.

I haven't asked anyone a direct question in regard to the issue....I'm still in read mode........and that goes for all candidates. I'll start asking questions when I'm ready, and I'm far from ready.

My original post on this thread was in regard to another poster's comment about there being no perfect candidate, something with which I agree 100%. That comment came from a Rudy supporter, someone I have a great deal of respect for when it comes to politics, but I'm not in that camp, at least not as far as the primaries are concerned.

I may or may not go that way, but it is too early for me. When I finish with what I am currently dealing with in the legislatures of a few states, then I will start asking questions - until then I will remain in primarily a read mode........the supporters of different candidates already know this, and respect it.

I didn't lie. You said you were going to leave the GOP. I figured you stood by your principles and followed your heart and leave. I didn't think you would become a flip-flopper. I shouldn't have to apologize for that, even though I remember you said you were leaving the GOP almost 2 years ago.

I am thoroughly and positively convinced that the ONLY reason EV posts here is to create division OR use the site to promote his employer and raise funds. He isn't as vitriolic on the Renewamerica forums. Here he has been found to be a proven liar about his involvement in so many conservative scams that it boggles the mind that anyone would ever lend any credibility to what he has to say. Others here that differ in opinion that can be reasonable and not hateful always have my admiration.

That's the problem. He IS a gun grabber. By any definition.

Yes he is. If I accept the NRA and GOA membership as true believers, expand the membership of 4.3 million to 5 million, how do we convince the other 75,000,000 gunowners that it is an important issue, one that should impact their vote.

Heck, throw out half as Dems, how do we convince 37,500,000.

My suggestion is that it's not through demonization, the jackbooted thugs analogy, simply through facts, the "I grabbed 30,000 handguns from law abiding citizens" analogy.

FR seems to prefer the former, but I doubt it will convince many of the 75,000,000

I hope Free Republic returns to the conservative principles that brought us here. I can't believe the juvenile reactions of the Giulianites. Criticizing their god is unthinkable. They react like liberals because they are liberals. Plain and simple.

Henceforth, I'm not going to get in the gutter with them. I am not going to answer any of them, or write anything provocative to them as individuals. But I am going to fight Giulianism with everything I've got, and try to take my party back from these Democrat clones. They can insult me until Hades freezes and I will not get into a back and forth with them.

Back in 1998, most of us on this website were unified by our hatred of Clinton. Most of us supported impeachment and backed W in both campaigns. Even after flirting with McCain (not me) most of us wore the big W in both elections. I have no use for Bush anymore, and have become severely disgusted. For this party to make a further leftward turn would be disastrous.

Last election we got clobbered. In my district, the moderates and the establishment GOP intentionally defeated their own nominee for an ACLU member and liberal Democrat. Now we have the same liberal wing telling us we can win if only we nominate a left wing candidate with severe personal baggage. If we sell our soul, what would we win?

JimRob and John have never insisted we agree on everything. And their willingness to accept discord and debate is amazing. I have always been well treated here. But the time to define and defend conservatism is at hand. "Vote for us or you'll get Hillary" is no platform. It's no ruling philosophy. It's as empty as the cult of personality supporting a city mayor with no national experience and no conservative philosophy. Roosevelt clobbered Wendell Willkie. Rudy will be cat food if we are stupid enough to nominate him.

He is a liberal with the morals of an alley cat. We used to oppose Bill Clinton for that pedigree.

I want to commend and congratulate you for a well written and excellent statement of your point of view. I disagree with you quite thoroughly. But people here can learn from your civility. Well done and well stated.
