A submachine gun belonging to a Jefferson County SWAT officer was stolen out of the cab of his personal truck last week while he was at a sports bar, and Lakewood police are still trying to locate the weapon.

The officer was at the bar on Feb. 21 with other members of SWAT when the HK MP5 was stolen, said Lakewood police spokesman Steve Davis.

The sports bar, Jackson s Hole, is across the street from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Colorado State Patrol at 675 Kipling.

The officer parked his Ford pickup in the parking lot about 6 p.m., police said. When he walked outside at 8:20 p.m., he noticed his truck had been broken into, Davis said.

"Old as dirt"??? Actually, it's one of the later SMGs in common use, even if it's 40-50 yrs old.

Is it his own personal weapon or dept. issue and if dept. issue, should he be hauling it around in his truck?

Its a WW2 design in a wimpy pistol calibre

That said, I want one.

But its such a piece of crap as an urban room clearer. its bulky and large and under powered and slow..

Its a fine weapon I just wonder why even our cops use "restricted" fire power?

Of course 650 rpm vice 1200 rpm is academic with a 30 rd mag (I made up the #s)

And beyond our cops rights why are "We" restricted?

At any rate the guy was a doofus to leave his high buck MP5 in the truck

WW2? It's from the 60's. It's sort of from the CETME design, which was in prototype stage in WW2, in basic appearance, but the 9mm subgun didn't come on the scene til the 60's. I've never shot one, but I love to shoot subguns, and have fired Thompsons, MP-40, PPSh-41, Beretta M-38, Reising, and a couple more. I'd rather have a shotgun in an urban setting, and a real rifle outdoors, but SMGs are so frigging fun to shoot.

That is what happens when you have progressive liberals making laws, taking guns from law abiding citizens. London has more shootings per capita than NYC. And there no one is allowed to carry even police except on special circumstances.

Just great! And when this weapon shows up on a crime scene the gun control banshees will be screeching from every housetop!
See...see...nobody should have them, not even cops, 'cause they might fall into the wrong hands!

Hey, I can dream that the worm might turn.

If that image in post #9 isn't PhotoShopped, well, then... actually, words fail me.

If one needed more proof that "you can't fix stupid", look no further. It appears that rule is in full effect even when an individual is one of the "anointed" inhabiting one of America's many, often-unconstitutional alphabet-soup agencies.

I hate to think what a criminal could do with that weapon.

Nothing that a criminal couldn't do with any other weapon. It isn't the weapon it's the criminal

The problem isn't that you can't get one, the problem is that the supply is restricted to firearms made before the 1986 civilian ban. This causes three problems, First the price is excessive and outrageous, and second sooner or later they'll wear out and third, you can't get the newer designs ie no M249 for you. If you want a SAW you're stuck with the M-60.

Words don't fail me. That move should be taught to all BATFE agents and drilled daily.
