Democrats May Cut Bush Military Budget

WASHINGTON - Democrats are considering cutting President Bush's budget $142 billion request for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan next year by $20 billion, Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad (news, bio, voting record) said Thursday.

The war funding cut would affect the budget year beginning Oct. 1 and is separate from the ongoing debate over Bush's $100 billion request for immediate supplemental funding for Iraq and Afghanistan.

The North Dakota Democrat said he likely will use Congressional Budget Office estimates — instead of the administration's February budget request — as the basis for estimating Iraq and Afghanistan war costs.

The administration asked for $141.7 billion for Fiscal 2008, but assumes only $50 billion for 2009 and no war funding after that.

CBO issued an estimate last month that forecasts 2008 costs of $120 billion for Pentagon operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and military aid for the armies of those two countries. The estimates would drop to $75 billion in 2009 and to $40 billion in 2010.

Not if the treasonous socialists have any say in it. Recall what Carter and Clinton did to our military and its readiness...and of course, now we have FINE AMERICANS like Pelosi and Murtha to support our troops....none of them deserve to live in America.

I'm so sick and tired of either hearing or reading the words:

MAY, COULD, POSSIBLY, SOURCES SAY, POTENTIALLY, MIGHT...

I could scream!

If you see or hear these words, turn the channel or drop the newspaper and DO SOMETHING else!

These words are nothing but SPECULATION....NOT FACTS.

....and please...TEACH YOUR CHILDREN TO DO THE SAME!

Seems like the beginning of a "phased" withdraw of support for our troops.

There needs to be a big stink raised about this, or this will likely only be the first salvo launched at their backs.

WASHINGTON from AP - Just hours after floating the idea of cutting $20 billion from President Bush's $142 billion request for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan next year, Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad was overruled by fellow Democrats Thursday.

Just like Congress cut off aid to South Vietnam in 1975.

If push comes to shove Bush can commandeer the Treasury and withhold Civil Service paychecks, Social Security Checks, and "borrow" from the Federal retirement plans to keep the military funded. Whether or not he has the cojones to play that card is another question.

Remember how the Demonrats said Iraq was a distraction from the real big show, which should be capturing Bin Laden? Here they are cutting funds for Afghanistan, when Osama is hiding either there or right across the border.

Bush will veto it if they do. Don't tell me about his little used veto stamp... he does know how to use it if needed. :-)
