Giuliani Accused Of 'Notorious Adultery' (flashback: June 21, 2002)

Giuliani Accused Of 'Notorious Adultery'

NEW YORK, June 21, 2002

(AP) Former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani's estranged wife has filed for divorce, citing adultery.

The filing by Donna Hanover, 52, came more than a year and a half after Giuliani filed to divorce her, citing cruel and inhuman treatment.

Hanover's lawyer, Helene Brezinsky, said her client rejected the grounds on which Giuliani's divorce was based.

"If there's going to be a divorce, let's have the truth about why — Rudy's open and notorious adultery," she said.

Giuliani spokeswoman Sunny Mindel replied: "There is no purpose in responding to this mudslinging."

Hanover's filing came June 10 in State Supreme Court. During the last months of Giuliani's tenure, his girlfriend, Judith Nathan, became the city's de facto first lady and appeared with him at official functions.

Meanwhile, the judge hearing the divorce agreed Thursday to increase the amount Giuliani pays to support his two children with Hanover — Andrew, 16, and Caroline, 12 — and for other expenses.

The amount will be raised to $24,000 a month from $1,800 a month. The judge said the change was justified by Giuliani's own admission that this year his income from speaking engagements alone will exceed $8 million.

Hanover had asked for nearly $1 million a year in child support and other expenses.

You have the primaries to defeat him so work hard to do it.

Working on it....

It's a reason to vote against Rudy. People will accuse their divorcing spouses of everything, so let's wait until the full details come out.

But I'll admit that if Rudy's adultry doesn't rise to the level of rape like some politicians, I may overlook the character flaw and vote for him anyway. If the terrorists hit the U.S. again, Rudy would be the man I'd want in charge.

But color me undecided at this point. I've got over a year to make up my mind.

Was Rudy's mistress on the government payroll (or working as a volunteer in his office)? Was Rudy sexuall propositioning coworkers (including using goons to bring women to his hotel room where he'd drop his pants and order them to "kiss it"?

Do you think the answer to that question matters to his wives or children?

Can a man who would wantonly ruin his own family, the most important institution in America, be a viable candidate for President?

This creep was a womanizer before, during and since. And he wants to be prez? I don't think so!

Recognize her? Jayne Wyman, Ronald Reagan's first wife.

Ronnie was a movie star, think he was pure as the driven snow? Now what do you think?

"Giuliani Accused Of 'Notorious Adultery'"

From 2002?
Getting a bit desperate are we?
But hey, that "Notorious Adultery" thing should be getting Rudy plenty of votes from the liberals in this country and cut into Hitelry's "adultery vote". They seem to go for that kind of thing. Just go ask BJ Klinton.

Good then, but if he wins the Republican nomination what are you going to do?

Big difference - when Rudy's affair was exposed, he owned up to it, divorced his wife and gave her custody of the children, and married his girlfriend. He also dropped out of the Senate race and didn't try to bluster his way through a campaign and make accusations that it was all a conspiracy to destroy him.

Giuliani is a high-powered, ambitious person who made a mistake in marrying another high-powered, ambitious person. These marriages rarely work out. We know the Clintons' marriage hasn't worked for decades, yet they continue the charade that it does.

By all accounts, Giuliani is faithful to his current wife. If he is found to be running around on her, it would definitely affect my support of him for President. But the failure of two previous marriages doesn't.

Rudy Giuliani deserves better than this. Speak to the issues that will affect America. You are better than this.

Here's the trouble. If the GOP nominates Rudy, every media outlet, Democrat politician, and leftwing mouthpiece in America and overseas will be calling the Republicans hypocrites for overlooking the character issue in his case, but lambasting Bill Clinton for the exact same things.

And you know what? They'd be right.

If character really matters, Rudy can not be the GOP nominee.

I'll take "Similarities to Jack Ryan (R, Illinois)" for $600, Alex.

That isn't fair

Jack Ryan's ex is smokin' hot.

Mainly because you don't know anything about the very personal and private circumstances within the Guliani marriage. "He said, she said". "It takes two to tango".

Second, how will any of the forthcoming Enquirer-like coverage (not "reporting") give you any measure of the man under fire in the White House? What does it tell you about his leadership skills? His ability to get things done? Answer: It won't, because it's immaterial to those questions.

There are enough solid reasons to be wary of him on standard political questions. His marital problems are simply irrelevant, and I couldn't care less what they might be.

Most importantly, the personal issues within his marriage are completely out of your reach, and you'll never, ever get the truth about them. So why bother? It's silly.

It was a legitimate reason to oppose Bill Clinton. And in my book, it disqualifies Guiliani for office of president. I don't see his opposition to a pro-life position as a different issue. Granted, he seemed to be married to a bad woman, but lots of people are and stick it out. He's Catholic and knows that. His not respecting life enough to fight legislatively for the unborn is related to a zipper problem. The lack of respect for life is a way to approach all aspects of life. Both he and Bill Clinton have this problem.

Reagan was divorced.

If I remember correctly, Jane left Ronnie and he was heartbroken about it.

Is adultery only a relevant issue when it can be used to defeat Democrats?

Short answer: Obviously.

As one Rudybot commentator put it in an article I posted a while back, "There's not a candidate with a clean skirt out there. Hell, I've been married myself three times." And, no doubt, his girlfriends have had numerous abortions. Doesn't everyone?

thank God - none of us suffer from Character flaws around here.

You got that right!

Of course - you could also bring up DIVORCE as a cohort of Adultery and call into question those who seek office who have had a divorce.....maybe even look into why any such divorce would be sought.....

Reagan was divorced...

Alcohol problems might also show a serious lack of character....

W is an alcoholic and has his finger on the button

This should totally eliminate everybody from our ranks.....maybe except Romney --- but then he is a Mormon

Great point. Mormons don't believe in Jesus.

Adultery, philandering and any other sort of malfeasence mean nothing when the candidate in question has a D after his or her name because the lamestream media will do everything in their power to cover it up. It only becomes an issue when the malfeasence is on such a scale it can no longer be covered up.

On the other hand, any irregularities on the part of a candidate with an R after his or her name becomes a major issue because the same media will do everything in their power to magnify and build it up.

Compare and contrast Tom Delay and William Jefferson, Scooter Libby and Sandy Berger, Tom Crane and Gary Studds, even Richard Nixon and Lyndon Johnson. Democrat scandals mean nothing. Republic scandals mean everything.

The GOP needs to find a candidate other than Rudy.

Rudy, Rudy, Rudy. You looked pretty good after 911 but you are looking unbelievably sleazy and un-presidential for true Conservatives.
