A Senate hearing that began with glowing tributes to a St. Louis businessman and his qualifications to become ambassador to Belgium turned bitterly divisive Tuesday after he was accused of supporting a controversial conservative group.
Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., grilled nominee Sam Fox about why he donated $50,000 to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth during the 2004 presidential race. The group of Vietnam veterans made unsubstantiated allegations against Kerry then the Democratic presidential nominee and charged that Kerry did not deserve the medals he won in the Vietnam War.
Fox, one of the nation's most generous contributors to Republican candidates and causes, said he shared Kerry's concerns that politics "has become mean and destructive."
Fox said he didn't recall who asked him to give to the group and blamed partisans on both sides for contributing to so-called 527 groups that are not subject to conventional campaign finance rules.
The guy should have told Kerry - I would spend every dime I have to insure you would not become president, I love my country.
He's still blaming other people.
He should have asked Kerry if he's released his Form 180 to the public yet, or was that just a botched joke too.
"Yes, Senator, I donated to the Swift Vets for Truth, and they were right on the money, you were unfit to Command!"
He should of asked Kerry if he was ok with George Soros spending millions to paint Bush as a Nazi.

ANSWER: My money; my business -- none of yours.
Pompous, lying, traitorous ass gets revenge by abusing his Senate position. What else is new?
"The group of Vietnam veterans made unsubstantiated allegations against Kerry"
So, first hand accounts of his behaviour and official Navy documents are "unsubstantiated"....???
Seems like Fox provided about $50,000 worth of SUBSTANCE...???
To which Kerry would no doubt reply: Our Senate, my committee -- and admit it. You didn't really want to be an ambassador anyway.
From what I read, every single one of their allegations WERE substantiated!
Indeed, such a statement would surely have earned him plenty of Democrat votes.
Hey, if you can't abuse your position to get even then what's the fun of being a Senator anyway?
Mr. Fox had one teed up from sKerry and struck right the hell out. Too bad. He should have told him the truth.
I wish the questioning was on the news. It would make Kerry look more like a bitter jerk.
Sorry Jenjis John, it is 3 years too late.
God Bless those swift-boat patriots.
That statement blows this article out of the water. Stating lies as fact was perfected by the Nazis in the 30's.
