Two interesting trends in the 2008 presidential race were uncovered in the latest Washington Post-ABC News poll:
- African American voters, "who little more than a month ago heavily supported Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton... now favor the candidacy of Sen. Barack Obama."
- White evangelical Protestants now clearly favor Rudy Giuliani over Sen. John McCain, "despite his support of abortion rights and gay rights, two issues of great importance to religious conservatives."
In the Democratic race, the poll found Clinton with 43% support, trailed by Obama at 27% and Edwards at 14%. None of the other Democrats running received more than 3%.
On the Republican side, Giuliani leads with 44% to Sen. John McCain's 21%. Newt Gingrich had 15% support.

Don't believe for one second that evangelicals are supporting Rudy. Pure BS.

It does, in fact, appear that McCain is slipping.McCain certainly made his own bed, didn't he?

I'm waiting for Wes Clark to come out on their side and really mix it up.He wil be running. He has already tried to solicit my ROTC student son through facebook.com to volunteer for "Wesley's Army." My son, of course, responded with a very emphatic NO!

The Evangelicals to Giuliani move will not last. My wife and I were both thinking Giuliani might be the guy 3 weeks ago, but we are
very open to someone else coming to the fore, and Romney is starting to win some points.
Giuliani's strength right now among evangelicals is based on 3 weak pedastals.:
1. High name-recognition
2. The Vaccuum Effect (lack of recognizable alternatives)
3. The Lesser of Two Evils Effect. (He's probably a little better than whoever the Dems put up).
He will, over time, piddle lose this support away if he doesn't roll up his sleeves and do something about it.

"Funny, I don't know anyone who calls him/herself an Evangelical who is in favor of a pro-abortion candidate.' You don't know me. But I admit my leaning to Giuliani is easily correctable should an electable alternative appear. I appreciate the Duncan Hunter folks, but he's never run anything other than his little Law office and I'm not at all persuaded he is electable. Tou have to be more than a veteran with the right position papers.

We seem to be destined to vote in a first this election cycle. A woman, a black or a Mormon. I say we take care of all three at once and elect Gladys Knight.

No problem. Like I said, it is one of my favorite songs.
By the way, a number of the people I work with, both Democrat and Republican, are looking at voting for Rudy. They don't like everything he stands for, but they like him better than any of the other candidates so far. And I have to agree.

Glad to hear it. Rudy knows that everyone will not agree with him but at least he is being honest about where he stands. He's not just saying things to get people to vote for him. His record is out there for all to read.

"I know it's still early but I don't see where McCain is going to gain any more support from."
Maybe he can pick up Tim Russert or Don Imus's vote?
