Blacks, Evangelicals Switch Allegiances

Two interesting trends in the 2008 presidential race were uncovered in the latest Washington Post-ABC News poll:

In the Democratic race, the poll found Clinton with 43% support, trailed by Obama at 27% and Edwards at 14%. None of the other Democrats running received more than 3%.

On the Republican side, Giuliani leads with 44% to Sen. John McCain's 21%. Newt Gingrich had 15% support.

Funny, I don't know anyone who calls him/herself an Evangelical who is in favor of a pro-abortion candidate.

Supporting Rudy doesn't mean they endorse abortion. It means they think he's the best political option for them at this time.

One of them is an evangelical and she's voting for Rudy!!

At the art gallery/coffee house? My, must have been one of those "evangelical" Episcopalians!

Evangelicals is a term applied to the Religious Right. However, that term has recently been hijacked by the media and the liberal leftwing churches. Be careful when you quote their statistics, because unless they include the Family Research Council, the Christian Coalition and others, they won't be accurate. Take these poll numbers with a very large block of salt.

Are you really so small minded that you think that art galleries that serve tea and refreshments are liberal establishments?

This is a business run by a young woman in her 20's in a very small, very Republican/conservative area of the Bible Belt in South Carolina.

I'm starting to wonder if Hermann Edwards is running McCain's campaign.

I have said it before and will say again, a President is not going to change this country with respect to abortion. It will be those in the pro-life movement who take the words of Christ seriously, to love our enemies and to take care of the fatherless and widows. That will change this country's attitude.

It does, in fact, appear that McCain is slipping.

Hi, Jake. I caught the last half hour of that speech and thought he spoke better than anyone else on the lecture circuit.

I did think he looked pale and hope it's just a function of the lighting vs. a tiredness from the early stages of campaigning.

McCain is the only Republican who I would need a couple of drinks before I voted for him if he was the nominee.

Well said! I didn't think I'd ever support a candidate who was not solidly against abortion and gay rights. But with the WOT, I think the most important thing for our survival is to have a man who is an outstanding leader, who will stand up to fight our enemies, who can unite people, and who isn't afraid to speak the truth.

I ruled out voting for McCain ever, about 8 years ago.

And let the mass hysteria begin.

By the way, on your about page, the line from "Ragged Old Flag", She hung limp and low by the time it was through. is actually She hung limp and low a time or two. It's one of my personal favorites.

The poll itself it huge. But political wire managed to figure this out from all the numbers.

Really? I got all the lyrics from a website quite a while ago. Thanks for the correction. I'll look and change it.

I thought I just saw a poll saying that conservatives were leaving Rudy over abortion.

That poll was conducted by "Life News".

Certainly they have no agenda. < /s>
