Really? You mean I can apply for a concealed carry permit and NOT BE DENIED if I lack a criminal record? What planet do you live on?

The only folks who are ever issued concealed carry permits in NYC are retired law enforcement, politicians, and the well connected. New York is a "may issue" state, not a "shall issue" state like the rest of America. You have to PROVE that you "need" to OWN a handgun, let alone carry one. Getting a carry permit entails years of legal expenses and remains slim to none in most cases, unless your father is a judge (no, I am NOT exaggerating).

When I lived in Miami, all I needed was to pass a short background check and pay $80. That's how its done in America. Then again, you should never confuse the Big Bagel/Moscow on the Hudson/Sodom on the Subway with America...

When the 2A was created, the same types of scumball people who exist now existed then. All the more reason to arm yourself for protection. The world isn't perfect, but NYC belongs on Neptune if they can't support the same bill of rights as the rest of the country.

And in places where the Second Amendment is still taken seriously, these things don't happen at such intolerably high rates. In fact, they happen very rarely in places where everyone's allowed to carry.

I've never been mugged and I've been carrying legally for 35 years, Where is your connection between legal gun owners and criminals?
Most of those guns would never have been illegal if the gun grabbers would quit making criminals out of lawful people.
Dealing with muggers is simple, shoot them. They won't mug anyone else and we won't have to pay for their time in prison. The liberals never want to punish anyone, except for conservatives, and them wonder why criminals continue to commit criminal acts.
When you deal with criminals then crime will go down. Around here most people legally carry firearms and we do not have a problem with gangs or violent crime. An armed society is a polite society.
