I've never been mugged and I've been carrying legally for 35 years, Where is your connection between legal gun owners and criminals?
Most of those guns would never have been illegal if the gun grabbers would quit making criminals out of lawful people.
Dealing with muggers is simple, shoot them. They won't mug anyone else and we won't have to pay for their time in prison. The liberals never want to punish anyone, except for conservatives, and them wonder why criminals continue to commit criminal acts.
When you deal with criminals then crime will go down. Around here most people legally carry firearms and we do not have a problem with gangs or violent crime. An armed society is a polite society.

What was Rudy supposed to do given a 95% Democrat opposition on the council and borough leadership?

Shoot all the muggers? That would really fly....no he took guns away from everyone. The only thing he could do given the political climate.

Now you can legally obtain a carry permit, although difficult as others point out.....but whatever your position you can not argue with the results.

This was a NYC problem and not a national problem....and what Rudy does is solve problems....this will not be high on his list. It is only an issue because the Clintons media wing knows that division is the best way to attack opponents.
