In Tennessee, the carry permit does not even specify whether the holder owns a gun - or ten. We can carry any handgun we please - and as many as we please. The permit does not list any gun at all, just as your driver's license doesn't way whether you own a car or not. Is it different in Texas?
No question about that.
In Texas, obtaining an RTC permit tells the local police (and God knows who else) that you own a firearm - even if you don't. If you bought your firearm through the fed's approved channels, they know which weapons you own. I don't want "them" to have an idea.
I just renewed my NRA membership for 5 years. Shortly, I'll also be joining GOA (Gun Owners of America), with a similar amount of dues paid in advance.
The two groups have somewhat different approaches, and there are pro- and con- supporters of each on the FR Banglist. But the truth of the matter is that, over the next couple of years, these groups are going to need lobbying and advertising dollars as never before. Each group is far better organized and able than I am as an individual (which essentially entails letters to the editor, and postcards to liberal politicians that won't get read anyway). But NRA and GOA have the clout to garner national attention. So I'm going to support them as much as I can over these next few difficult years. I encourage all RKBA supporters, home defenders, shooting-sports enthusiasts, and hunters to do the same.
I don't like giving more power to the Feds either and ultimately I would like to see the states retake their rightful authority from them. But I think we have to live with an ignorant perception of federal authority for the time being.
I see this Right-to-Carry bill as good because it will result in greater acceptance of armed citizens as normal and beneficial. Over time the statistics will prove it to be beneficial.
What you gonna do? Come pay me a visit? I've got a lot of guns and know how to use them.
You don't.
Unfortunately the need for a gun usually arises in an instant and without any warning. I have never heard of a completely crime free area either.
In all sincerity, wastedyears.... when "that moment" arrives, it will be too late for you to wish you had your firearm. The point of having the firearm is preparedness, not after-the-fact admission of "now I'm finally ready."
I sincerely and honestly hope that you never encounter that moment, because it could certainly turn out for the worst.
Also consider.... those who say they support the RKBA, but do not add their numbers to the ranks of owners, or spend any dollars in support of RKBA, are not contributing to the "demographic" of gun owners. If the libs can honestly say, "Look at these NRA types! For all their boasting, there were only X,000 guns purchased last year in the USA." In order to call the libs at their bluff, we need to have honest and solid numbers on our side. Join the team!
It would be easier to recruit if some of the team members didn't spout off like the jerk above.
Your paranoid. (you asked for it!) I haven't seen the bill, but the story says states will still regulate the standards, this just requires other states to accept the permit you were given by your state. Right now for me to drive from Michigan to Florida, I need to call like 5 state attorney general offices and ask about reciprocity agreements. And my state AG needs to negotiate reciprocity with 49 other states - what a waste of time - thus it doesn't happen. Glad we don't have to do that with our driver's licenses.
Having the feds enforce the "full faith and credit" clause of the Constitution on the states - which is exactly why it's mentioned - is a good thing.
Yes, there's risks.
Short of full RKBA recognition, it's the next step.
Strange comment from someone whose tagline is
(Peace through superior firepower.)
Kinda motivates you to get your reps to give you your rights, eh?
So does this mean that other states will recognize Vermont's carry rules?
You're a Texan. Of course you have one!
Same complaints with driver's licenses. No problem there.
