"I supported welfare reforms. He didn't." That's what Senate candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton told the New York Times' Adam Nagourney last week, by way of contrasting herself with her likely opponent, New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani (while at the same time denying that she is the left-winger depicted in Giuliani's mailings).
Hillary will run to Rudy's right. And she won't have to lie that much to do it.
What a sad state of affairs.

YEAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!
Howard had his melt down AFTER he lost a primary to John Kerry--who had been running at about 4% just three months before.
Rudy = Dean. Surprise!

If Rudy Giuliani secures the GOP nomination in 2008, I think a lot of people are going to be shocked at just how effectively his Democrat opponents (even if it's Hillary Clinton, folks) are going to position themselves to his RIGHT on some of these issues.
I won't be. They telegraphed exactly that strategy in 2006 (GOP corruption, Foley-gate, the border, etc.)
If a viable 3rd Party candidate were to enter the race to run to Rudy's right, he'd be lucky to get the 38% that G. H. W. Bush got in 1992.

"Anyway, nice job of digging up Rudy's past. Maybe you can dig up some of the things he said when he was 13?"
Tell ya what, why don't you educate us on any good experience that Rudy has gotten in the last 5 years. Any Foreign policy experience, experience with domestic issues, constituent rights, WOT experience, whatever. Show us that he has the experience and judgement to be president. Here is your opportunity to educate us anti-JulieAnnie people.
Please do not include anything that is merely him expressing his opinions (Heck, everyone in the country wanted to invade the middle east on Sept 12!), or things that he did while in the employ of nations that could be considered our adversaries (e.g., being a paid employee of Mexico).
Do you have anything?

Rudy cut the welfare rolls in NYCity. But that only shifted the burden from one welfare entitlement program to another welfare entitlement program. From the Manhattan Institute:
"The scope of government was not reduced at all. [Rudy] did cut costs in social services; even before the new federal welfare reforms took effect in 1997, the city had begun to significantly reduce caseloads. But money saved on social services has only helped to subsidize big increases in other categories. Today the array of social services sponsored and partially funded by the cityfrom day care to virtually guaranteed housingis as wide as ever.
"In the final analysis, Mayor Giuliani sought to make the city deliver services more efficientlynot to make the city deliver fewer services. ..... the city ... failed to reduce spending."

That's actually pretty surprising. Rudy didn't do much before he was mayor, and didn't do much after November 2001.
