Gore Responds to Charges His House Uses Too Much Electricity

Tuesday , February 27, 2007

Al Gore responded to charges that his house consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, with the new Oscar winner saying he has taken many steps to reduce the carbon footprint in his home.

The former vice president and former presidential candidate told Thinkprogress.org that he has signed up for 100 percent green power through Green Power Switch, installed solar panels and uses compact fluorescent bulbs and other energy-saving technology. He said he also buys carbon offsets — a service that tries to reduce the net carbon emissions of individuals or organizations indirectly, through proxies that reduce their emissions and/or increase their absorption of greenhouse gases.

"What Mr. Gore has asked is that every family calculate their carbon footprint and try to reduce it as much as possible," said Thinkprogress.org. "Once they have done so, he then advocates that they purchase offsets, as the Gores do, to bring their footprint down to zero."

Gore was responding to a report issued by the Tennessee Center for Policy Research, which, citing figured from the Nashville Electric Service, said that since last August, Gore burned through 22,619 kilowatt-hours at his house — more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. His average monthly electric bill topped $1,359, the report said.

Your definition is pretty close. Check out http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1791877/posts.

Al Gore is a fool on so many levels that it really is disheartening when one thinks back to just how close he got to the presidency.

Bull crap. That doesn't explain why his electricity bill is so much higher. I love liberal squealing when they're caught. If he were a 'true believer' he would sell his mansion and live like one of the common folk. What is it, just he and Tipper? They don't need a mansion. It's obvious he's just filthy rich and that's not fair!

Buying "offsets" seems eerily similar to the old practice of sinners being able to buy "indulgences" as a payment for their sins.

Al Gore might have known this if he didn't flunk out of divinity school...

Not unlike dieting by putting artificial sweetener in the coffee that you have with your cheesecake.

Well, then...as long as you try.

Gore is like Robert Kennedy Jr, Ariana Huffington, etc.: The rules apply to the little people, not to them.

Animal Farm personified: "All are equal, but some are more equal than others."

Yeah, yeah, whatever, Al. He buys "carbon offsets" used through "proxies"??

In other words, he pays someone else to do without??

Bottom line: Al's consumption of energy has RISEN since his movie came out.

Al Gore is the Leona Helmsley of Global Warming.

"Only the little people pay taxes."

Only the little people have to conserve.

What would be consider "100 percent green power"?

Wind and Water generated electricity only?

Doesn't Wind Turbines dice up the birds and generating dams impede the natural flow of rivers, trapping fishes and other species?

calculate their carbon footprint and try to reduce it as much as possible,

I usually ask guests to remove their shoes and leave them in the garage before entering my house. That helps alot......

"That doesn't explain why his electricity bill is so much higher."

It's probably his grow lights in the basement. Takes a lot of juice to run those babies.
