Giuliani Says Taxes Helped Sway Him From Democrats to GOP
Fox News ^

Washington. Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani addressed his Democratic past on Tuesday and offered one reason for his political conversion — the economy and taxes.

"I don't think anything separates us more right now between Republicans and Democrats than how we look at taxes," the former New York mayor said. "What we understand as Republicans is that, sure, the government is an important player in this, but we are essentially a private economy. What Democrats really believe ... is that it is essentially a government economy."

Great. You managed to keep crime down with the same gun control laws as DC.

Just think how far it would go down if the criminals actually had to take care to select gun fearing wussies, rather than any random citizen.

Think how hungry attorneys would be if the public defenders didn't get subsidized jobs, rather the folks who they had previously defended were in the morgue, or hiding at home afraid to commit crimes.

they hate giving their wages to government bureaucrats as much as the rest of us do !!!

That's for sure. It always gripes me when they talk about tax dollars like it their money -- it is still our money they are spending.

It sure as heck wasn't abortion. Or gun rights. Or First Amendment rights. Or federalism.

". On Hannity Rudy said, “I understand the Second Amendment. I support it. People have the right to bear arm"

There isnt a gun grabber alive that hasnt said those exact words.

I don't trust Rudy. I trust his record.

His record is that of a liberal and that is why he will never get my vote.

Converted Democrats are the 2nd-worst people on the planet.

What's so terrible about Ronald Reagan?

That would, by my count, be two reasons.

Again, the lie. Newt Gingrich said nothing about his fiscal policies.

Peach apparently has bought into the liberal technique that if you repeat a lie often enough, people will start to believe it's the truth.

You just managed to diss President Reagan and a number of others. President Reagan was a Democrat before he switched so was J.C. Watts and numerous other southern Democrats who became Republicans.

Rudy does have a solid fiscal record, for NYC. That city was so mired in New Deal liberalism that any tax cut was like giving ice water to residents of Hell. You have to give him that.

He's a conservative on fiscal, domestic, and foreign policy issues and supports strict constructionist judges.

I don't want to get on the subway everyday and be Wyatt Earp. that works fine in other parts of the country - but in a locale where there is very little private space, public transportation is the norm, crowded streets, etc - arming 5 million people is not the answer. effective policing is. DC has ineffective policing, as do many other cities.

That is about the only thing he has in common with conservatives. Everything else remains in common with the Marxist dimocrats.

What's so terrible about Ronald Reagan?

He did it with conviction, and before it became politically expedient.

I still don't like the 1986 tax legislation.

When factual information, like the George Will piece you just posted, is posted I have no problem with that. That's a very nice quote for Rudy supporters to hang their hats on.

What I have a problem with is posters who post incorrect, mischaracterized or completely false information over and over even though they know it is incorrect.

Actually, a reenactment of the Clinton gun ban was just introduced, but instead of two scary features, this would ban just one.

And it bans a favorite gun that I don't yet own, the M-1 Carbine.

With luck, it won't go anywhere. But that doesn't mean that if they had somone who would sign it, that it wouldn't.

I really would like Rudy to come to a IDPA match, and talk about how he would like to see concealed carry reciprocity with standards analogous to those of the local police.

I think it would be whole lot easier to get elected mayor of NYC as a Democrat than a Republican.

I try to to only post the facts. If I get something messed up I'll be more than happy to admit my mistake and correct it.

Exercising a Constitutional right makes you "Wyatt Earp"?

You don't get it.

You don't arm 5 million people. You permit honest people to arm themselves, with proper training. They can carry, or not as their situation may demand. You may never need to. A taxi driver may need to.

Freedom. Consider it.
